"An error occurred while reading the FLP file"

Post by overture » Wed Jun 06, 2012 5:18 pm

"It may be corrupted, or some plugin caused an error while opening."

So I've been working hard on a track for like the last week and a half and today I come to open it to finish it up and I get that message. I'm genuinely crushed by seeing this, I'd put so much effort into the track and was hoping to upload later today but now...nothing. I've searched around and from the looks of things I won't be getting it back.

Has anyone else had this happen to them? If so, did you manage to recover your project (and how), or is it basically game over?

It's so frustrating as I save every 5 minutes to make sure I don't lose anything and now this. I guess in the end it's my fault for not backing up the project to a second save file but I honestly had no idea that this could happen. Any help you guys have is appreciated.

I don't know exactly what's happening but my advice is don't mess around with it before you do research and know exactly what you should be doing.

Is either your copy of FL, or any of the plugins used in the project, cracked copies?

I just went into the Backup folder and saw like 30 backups of that project! I had no idea they were there and they seem to work fine and the latest one opened exactly where I left it so hopefully I can carry on now and just be extra careful. Such a relief seeing that, maybe I should of checked that folder before panicking and posting on here lol. Thanks for the responses anyway.

@wub My FL copy is genuine but I have a cracked copy of z3ta from a few years back so maybe that was what caused it. I hardly use that anymore anyway so maybe it's worth getting rid of altogether.

Sometimes people can't afford products like big name VSTs and DAWs so torrents are close "friends." Skream wouldn't be where he is today without that little cracked copy of Fruity Loops. It is stealing but... When you actually can afford them, you buy the product twice to compensate for the time you stole. That's just my two cents though.

Before I read the rest of the thread I was going to say "But doesn't FL do auto backups?"

Never had a project corrupt on me but any DAW worth its salt will automatically back shit up like that for you :)

FL has an optional auto backup; the default is a backup prompt.

Try clicking the backup folder in the browser.

Got hit with a corrupted project about a month ago but just went through the backup files in the FL Backup folder until one wasn't corrupted which worked fine.
Went to open a dnb tune last week though that I'd been working on but because I've been jumping between several projects the backups for the dnb tune have disappeared and I can only access the backups of the most recent track I'd been working on.

Does anyone have an alternative method for resurrecting it? Would hate to think that it's gone to waste. Even tried downloading a program that claims to fix corrupted projects but no luck.
