This is really interesting to me. I'm not taking the piss in the slightest - but could you write a few sentences on what you consider the "English Identity" to be other than someone that lives in England?

I struggle to even grasp it as a concept tbh, but I get the impression from conversations like these that some people have a very strong sense of what "English" means or "should" mean.

Reasons why a UKIP vote is a good vote

Post by DJoe » Tue Apr 15, 2014 3:35 pm

so your prepared to vote in a party that would remove the benefits of someone who is in the same position you were in. not trying to insult you but that comes across as very selfish

A sense of national pride in essence, where we aren't afraid to fly the Union Jack cos we're "racist" and we aren't afraid to celebrate national days, British customs etc.

Right, but what does that actually mean? People fly a flag because they want to represent something they're proud of, surely? What is it that you're proud of Britain for in particular or would you be as proud of wherever you were born? Which British customs in particular are you proudest of?

There was an awful lot of proud flag waving all over the country for the Jubilee... and the Royal Wedding... and the Olympics... and every England sports occasion... and the Proms every year... what extra excuses to revel in Britishness or Englishness do we need more of in your opinion? Should we take the American route and have our kids declare their allegiance to the flag before school?

Who is scared of flying the union flag? When was anyone scared to celebrate St Georges day? What are British customs?

Mate, you're a criminal.
i'm not trying to run the country
Should that stop you if you're otherwise prepared and qualified for the Job?
Also, chances are everyone you vote for has some questionable legal history. Whether caught or evaded.

If you look at estimates of how many people celebrated with street parties etc for the Jubilee it was like 5% or something. I swear most people don't give a shit about patriotism unless they're stuck up to fuck. There's nothing really going for the country anymore as far as I can see, except a higher education industry...

Again.. national pride is for people who have achieved fuck all for themselves and have no pride in themselves or their own work. Bang on about 2 world wars in your early 20s like you contributed to it lol.

Being born somewhere requires no effort and is based entirely on luck, how can you be proud of that? Be glad you're English all you like, but pride? Such an odd concept to me.

Exactly. The UK is fucked because the previous two generations generally rolled over when the politicians decided to protect the rich few at the expense of the many

I think you're either taking it too literally or just being facetious.
