Yung lean I'm not sure about tbh.Agent 47 wrote:yeah fair
i just thought yung lean and spooky knew they were a bit of a joke
but apparently not... which i find astonishing
Like, he's worked with Baba Stiltz, who's not a tnuc. At least not in that sense.
You guys would probably say he makes 5panelelectofunk or some shit (he wears 5panel hats). But he does a lot of other stuff too.
That being said, the rest of sad boys seem a little questionable.

Re: The Fedora/Cringe thread
maybe spooky is purposefully pointing to the fact that a sellable image is so integral to sound these days that you can't make it in the music industry without having a reasonable amount of both
(there are exceptions obviously)
just interesting to see how many people comment with shit like "OMG I LOVE THIS SONG BUT I CAN'T GET OVER HOW RIDICULOUS/WIGGER/STUPID/BLACK HE LOOKS"
to me it kinda seems like him making a pastiche of the whole thing, & it's the only way people will be upfront about how much they're judging what they can see rather than what they can hear.. when it's that over the top
my guess is he's just trolling everyone
even if he's not, who gives a fuck, his voice is great
my 2p

Re: The Fedora/Cringe thread
I think it's easy to develop a theory like that based on one track. Also easy to develop a theory like mine based on it tbh.
But the latter part I agree with, makes sense when you put it like that. I just don't think the fact it's like that makes it credible enough tbh.
True on the yung lean part. That's why I think he might be legit tbh. It seriously doesn't sound like he's trying to be good, so I don't think he's that commited to the lifestyle. That being said, I'm not sure I've ever payed any attention to his lyrics tbh.

What did people think about FlyLo being Captain Murphy?
I think it's pretty weird that a man of FlyLo's age writes lyrics that are so Odd Future. Unless he's trying to buoy them off to their faces, I think he might be a little bit of a creep/sado tbh.

Kyoto is a tune
Haven't felt anything else by Yung Lean. He's tumblr as fuck but tumblr is just a part of life in 2014, wether you like it or not…it's as "real" as anything else. People who are so on edge about what's authentic culture and what isn't ironically don't get to live authentically themselves. The whole 5 panel character is pretty funny to joke about, because it's definitely a type but if you can't tolerate going to raves or listening to a certain kind of music because you feel like it's affiliated with "fake" people like that, then you're the fakest one around.

Re: The Fedora/Cringe thread
It's an interesting concept…probably more relevant to someone like me, who isn't directly involved in the UK rave scene, but of course is obsessed with it.
I read this interview with this author once. He'd written about Chicago blues music, and how its white tourist audience is so fixated on getting the "authentic" blues experience. They wanted clubs to look a certain stereotypical, smokey, rundown way, and they only wanted black performers - Even though at the time the book was written, there were really as many or more white people involved in blues in Chicago.
Maybe it's the equivalent with people who are so against really trendy types being in the underground scene they like. Maybe they want their scene look a certain way that they thought it looked back in 2002 or 1995 or 1988.
Or fuck it, maybe 5 panel people really are just stnuc. I wouldn't know. But last time I went out a decidedly 5 panel type in some sort of grey suit with a supreme(?) sweater under it complimented me on my stussy crewneck, before chatting to his friends that stussy was a brand he rated.

Re: The Fedora/Cringe thread
Would you go out and listen to music you thought basic bitches listened to?
How would you feel if you were playing some tracks in your room and the most basic chicks in your building knocked on your door to say they loved whoever had made it?

Re: The Fedora/Cringe thread
Some good theorising going on here.
For me, it's just the tunes #Cliche #IKnow but when I first heard Yung Lean, I didn't know what he looked like, my mate just sent me the tune. Think I first heard Lil Spook/Spooky Black on his bandcamp page too. In fact, I still ain't watched the video people are going on about.
Regarding the way people dress, I think most of the producers I like are probs pretty weird, and whenever I go to a night, I see people wearing all manner of straight ridiculous garms. If I didn't listen to stuff based on how the producers/artists looked or acted, I wouldn't have much choice tbf.

Re: The Fedora/Cringe thread
That being said. I do think the music that I like the most is the stuff that doesn't evoke a very strong social image. Kind of just a personal space.
Spooky black track had a great beat and he's not an awful singer imo, but I first heard it with the video and immediately went looking for Greaf's beats, which I though were shit lol, and an instrumental, which I didn't find.

Just don't worry about image man.
I'd hate to have to agonise over whether I should like a tune like some of you dudes must do.
