Ganja WHite Night Synth

Post by Eliashtc » Tue Apr 29, 2014 6:08 pm

If anyone could help me or very vaguely point me towards the right direction regarding making the main synth in Mango (gwn) (https://soundcloud.com/ganjawhitenight/ ... ight-mango) which kick in at 2:18, Id very much appreciate that.
Thanks

Do you mean the pitch bended synth or the mid range wub? The mid range wub at 2:18 sounds like it's riding syncopated off the bass. I always say to people the synth is barely a quarter of making a good song, think carefully about where you place those wubs, try to catch people on the off beat is a good composition trick.

To answer your question though, it's definitely a saw type waveform, if you're using massive find a real mid range hitting waveform, add phase, distortion, short delays, dimension expander and effects etc... The movement he has on his synths is awesome too, don't limit yourself to just a lfo on the filter cutoff. Try experimenting, like I dunno, 2/12 lfo on the amp and a 1/4 lfo on the filt cutoff or other way round and modulate those rates to get some crazy movement.
I can also tell you at 1:50 he probably used a 1/8 lfo on a lowpass filt with a slow rising attack on the cut off using an envelope

but yeah it's definitely the modulation on the movement that is staggering and where you place the sounds between your drums and sub bass, modulate them waveforms too!
Ganja white night is fucking sick man, his wonky basslines get me more than anything, hope I helped somehow! Soundcloud[/soundcloud]
