I don't buy nerves will effect a power/precision combo more than just placing it though, not at a professional standard anyway. I reckon nerves get to you more if you do that dumb stuttering thing and see the keeper not react one bit, not a flinch.. that normally causes them to panic and just swing aimlessly with no power. Yesterday was a good example of that.

Fair enough but odd (to me).
I see their mindset as the prime asset in most great athletes tbh not that it's directly related as such in this case but a huge factor anyway. I can't imagine a bigger shift in ability than when Ronaldinho stopped smiling, but then again Brazilian players tend to go to a complete halt much quicker than other players.
:6: Might just be paella + glue or that they peak early.
LeTissier and Gerrard kind of argues in your favour though. They are apparently some of the most scoring pen takers and use a fair bit of power.

Think penalties to win a tie are different because you have non regular penalty takers taking pens. Like whether you place it or blast it if you are used to doing it under pressure you're going to fare better than someone who only takes 1 per year or so. Non regular penalty takers should always go for power as I think nerves will have more of an impact the more you think about it.

It also showed Ronaldo up for the self centered shithouse he is when he was down to take the 5th penalty for Portugal and they were eliminated before he took one.

Penalties are unique as far as football situations go... free kicks can be from anywhere, the walls might be in different places or not there at all; open play is a lottery as far as chances go... but penalties are *exactly* the same every time. Same distance, same direction, same obstacle, same size target. A top corner penalty is a top corner penalty in every game of football. The same way that basketball players drill penalty throws or ten pin bowlers drill curveball strikes until it's a genuine shock to miss one... people in a shootout, fine, but if someone's their team's week-in, week-out penalty taker they should have a top corner penalty in their muscle memory...

I think it's a good logical post magma.
But I think in the nba it's just such a huge part of the game.
And that you have to be able to. Also there's more of a meditational aspect to getting a good penalty throw than there is in football.
I feel like you step up in football and you get a breather in basketball (exaggerated).

+ opponent keeper playing his part when the idea is automatism/muscle memmory

well this case was not *exactly* the same as goalkeeper of seville was two meters from the goalkeeper line

ok this is the butthurt comment of the month but:
i can't believe that sevilla has won this europe league, they were two positions behind the last uefa place but Rayo vallecano and Malaga both had financial problems so they could sneak in, the first group was a fucking joke, then they played against the last team of the spanish league that was in a very bad moment and they won in the penalties with out deserving it as betis was much netter in the two matches, can't say nothing about oporto because i didm´t see the match, but valencia again a goal in the very last minute and the only occasion from them in the whole match, and yesterday, well we all saw the match :u: :u: :u:

what, uefa cup final was yesterday?

this is bullshit, why would they have games on thursday the whole time and then suddenly have the final on a wednesday.

Also gutted for benfica- might put a bet on them losing next years final too

shithouse
 still enjoying that comment.

Tbf Diego they've been a very concervative team, balanced even this time around, which was very different from the last two times they won where it was all very dynamic and risky. But I get your point they have been lucky.

What is so horrible about the club though, speaking in local terms, please share?

My thoughts exactly. It can't be hard if you're the chosen pen taker for your team to practice drilling it into the top corner. Sounds like the easiest part of the game to master... aside from the nerves/atmosphere but that comes with experience. Lace it top corner with the aim to split the net imo

Or Totti style backheel

forget about the logistics
Totti should be the penalty taker for all teams 4 ever

it would be much more fair and entertaining

Historically it was the team of the richs and betis of the humble, at to the point that the only league that betis has won, with a awesome team , was wortless because the next year the civil war started and all the players of betis had to go to the war while the sevilla teams were protected.
Anyway now that is not true teams are more mixed but a lot of people started following sevilla when they won the first uefa. T he worst thing is that they are reaaaaaaaally annoying when they win, as we are us when we win. the thing is that they are wning a lot more lately and sometimes with a lot of luck
