An open letter to the electronic music community, penned by Seth Troxler himself...

Yeah, the article is one big ode to 'what I like is good, what other people like is bad. I'm a big name DJ, so people care to read my emotional ramblings on what I like better'. I don't think he understands how much he's like Steve Aoki and Avicii by posting a long, personal rambling about what he likes on Thump

As with near enough everything negative since the dawn of man, the youth enjoying themselves are to blame.

Shit changes. Rave culture was unlike what came before it. What came before rave was unlike what came before it and so on.

This is just another "Youth In 'Want Something Different To Previous Generations' Shocker".

I've said before and I'll say it again - the fallout from the EDM bubble bursting will be something spectacular to behold

Will it be any different to any of the other hundred bubbles that have burst in music over the years? Rap rock, emo, etc.

Some people that made a lot of money suddenly don't make as much if any, most people move onto the next big thing, some people stay fans of it forever and staunchly defend it, something else becomes the next major money maker.

Not being snarky, just asking if you think there's more to it!

In terms of electronic music and the implications thereof, I'd say yes.

One of the reasons that Dubstep came about is because the UK garage bubble burst. When EDM bursts, the injection of new styles and subgenres into the wider audience as a result will be awesome. Lots of new strains of exciting stuff coming through, that sort of thing.

Hard to really put in words, as I know it could be that what is getting made as EDM now isn't necessarily something that has had a decent gestation period (as I've mentioned before), but hopefully there will be enough of a carry through from smaller producers sick of how [played out genre] is going, so it will create some offshoots.

He's not writing about any of that though. He is just calling people out etc.. to back up a point
that is obvious imo.

On second thought, I think he just wrote it to dissociate himself from all the EDM guys and keep his "underground cred". He's posting about interacting with all those big name EDM DJs, playing the same festivals as him and he probably doesn't like being lumped in the same pool.

If the article was a carefully constructed analysis behind the opinion, I wouldn't be so cynical about it. But it's all just saying 'u guys r stupid, I'm not" And then there's this: "Intellect is a true indication of taste. " Can anyone above the age of 14 be really impressed this?

again, his stuff is basically what kids get into their post-edm phase when they get into "proper/real house & techno". still festival fodder tho (not unlike hot creations, wolf+lamb / soul clap / crew love / w/e they call themselves, richie hawtin etc)
