i dont think introducing more strict gun laws is taking away a freedom tbh, loads of other countries get along perfectly fine without them

I think you misunderstood, the point was that americans rarely ever do stand up to their government, and when they do the citizens are overwhelmed by the government.




Side note, I don't think you can defend gun ownership rights with the second amendment, because the guns are just for protection from the government, who'd batter you with or without them. And to date, I'd hold guns accountable for much more social damage than political defense.

When Americans wish their state to secede form the union, they're always labelled as being bigots and racists and the notion of 'secession' is ridiculed by Democrats but also just from the media as a whole. It's never fully explained why people shouldn't support the right to secession, just that they shouldn't. But many secessionists in America (and I'm not talking about the melodramatic sore losers who wanted to see Romney win) want to leave the union for some very legitemate reasons. Such as their belief that the federal government has vastly overreached its bounds, and their opposition to the fed's imperialism and warmachine.

But no one treats secessionists elsewhere in a similar way.

I can assure you that a functioning political system based on multiple parties and extremely limited capacities for each organ, fitted with accurate representation of political minorities aswell as instruments for the constituting people to take direct influence on policies (re: organisation of polities in the U.S.) is better at protecting the people against state oppression than handing every fuckwit an assault rifle.

oh, by the way: Swiss government does hand every fuckwit an assault rifle - SIG550 - since their military service rifles are considered personal weapons. military service is compulsory, everyone gets to keep their weapons at home after 21 weeks of boot camp. there are 42 weapons per 100 inhabitants, or 54 weapons per 100 swiss citizens (source: Small Arms Survey / University of Geneva). however, the last killing spree dates back to 2001. again: liberal gunlaws aren't the problem. killing sprees are symptoms of heavy dysfunction within the population. I can't imagine the NRA being particularly interestend in spending tax dollars to improve society's state, though.
