When Americans wish their state to secede form the union, they're always labelled as being bigots and racists and the notion of 'secession' is ridiculed by Democrats but also just from the media as a whole. It's never fully explained why people shouldn't support the right to secession, just that they shouldn't. But many secessionists in America (and I'm not talking about the melodramatic sore losers who wanted to see Romney win) want to leave the union for some very legitemate reasons. Such as their belief that the federal government has vastly overreached its bounds, and their opposition to the fed's imperialism and warmachine.

But no one treats secessionists elsewhere in a similar way.

meh, still don't really see it and don't get that second comic at all and don't see how it relates to the first one at all.

but regarding secession, that's because people in the US that try to start secession movements or anything relating to dividing up land in different ways or disputes over territories or anything like that have proven themselves time & again to be based in fundamentally racist beliefs. they're like the boy who cried wolf. that's why no one takes them seriously. cliven bundy is the latest example. fox news talked him up as this revolutionary man and what do you know, of course, he believes in a bunch of horrible racist shit. and tbf most "anti-government, government overreach, etc" shit is rooted in racism at the moment due to obama being in office. apparently it was completely fine for the govt to do all that shit in 2007 - starting wars, bail outs, etc - but suddenly in 2008 all of the rednecks thought it was the worst thing in the world. hmm.....

so if someone came along and presented a secession movement in a proper, civil way, they would be laughed at at first because that's just what the public is used to, but eventually if they were truly rooted in rational and reasonable and moral beliefs, i think the public would eventually support them.

I'm talking about people like OGLemon who brought it up. Also, SNH would blatantly get a boner if poor countries choose to divide themselves along ethnic lines and you know it

Seems like everybody in SNH is for the ethnic Russians becoming independent from the rest of Ukraine. Just a weird quirk I've noticed in the SNH. Politically, anything that happens in a poor country is for the good. Anything that happens in a rich country is usually bad.
