The Sub/Low-Mid Range Bass Thread

Generally speaking, i'm rather happy with the sub bass i produce. But this, this is on another level altogether...

Just getting a chance to go through Truth's page now and check all the clips for their forthcoming album (which sounds fucking huge) and i'm just blown away by the low end in every track.

How is this possible?! Teach me!

I'm not gonna walk thru the whole thing but some key elements:

-reverb
-getting the stabby envelope right
-using the right source (wavetable - metal sounding)
-LFO acheives the "wuh wuh" effect

I would use massive or fm synthesis for that. probably what he used.

(just to clarify I meant the third sound, not the "wuh wuh" but the "waaah")
The "waah" is achieved by a lpf opening up, true yeah. And reverb.
Wondering how to achieve the source though? Gonna fuck about with fm but that will just be experimenting, any ideas?

It's the same thing really. i dunno, metallic sounds aren't my forte, i would check some more midrange focused threads for that. maybe duck organ could make that sound with some phase modulation, &/or ring modulation. some of those inserts might help - frequency shifter, bit crusher, etc.

I'm curious about this kind of sub bass that I've seen from Rude Kid, Kromestar, Preditah, and Faze Miyake.

To me, this is what "trap" bass was before I even knew what "trap" was. I'm not even sure if there's an official name for this kind of sub bass, as it's commonly used, but I'd love to be able to hit the same sound design ballpark as that track. It seems like it's some sort of 808 sub underneath a well compressed kick, but I wonder if there's more to it than that.

Any ideas how to make this Bass - Sub Bass?
I can imagine something with square wave = LFO over the filter with some reverb and Eq but not too sure.

sub is a sine, the synth on top i have no idea.

It's the same sound from Mere Sher and Electrocution Dub. Surprised it doesn't have a name at this point. I have a few theories about it. It could just be like a growly bass with slow envelopes/lfos and lots of reverb.

Or, I have this feeling that it's a heavily processed brass instrument playing a very low note. Like try taking a big horn sample from a low octave, compress, distort, add lots of reverb, filtering of course, etc, and see what you come up with.

I think Kromestar samples a bit more nowadays thanks to Jason X and him doing some work together, said in an interview he learnt a lot about sampling from Jason X.. so could be a good guess.

So, middy/low mid neuro basses! I can not get these down. I dont have a good example but basically a bass with loooots of movement but no highs, mostly lows and mids.

How do you achieve this? I thought lowpassing your average neuro bass would do it but no. I'm not very good with neuro at all but I really want to know how to make these

sounds like lowpassing, pitch bending / portamento / pitch envelope, and maybe some LFO'ing as well (on volume).

Out of curiosity, any fl users here us 3xosc for their subs? Alot of the subs used in tunes now a days are pretty simple, it's the automation's the artist puts on their bassline or what they do with it that makes the tune. ,

Fiter cutoff is too old school, for every sound, we must have at least 8 tracks of automation for eq alone.

Think these actually might be some of the best I've ever heard, am pretty mesmerised by them. All i can make are fairly generic sounding dirty ones.

To replicate that sound:
Make a basic Reese in massive with double notches and get pretty aggressive with shapers.
Bounce a long note like 4 or 8 bars.
Automate a low pass on that note to make it growl.
Bounce down.
Put In a sampler and have fun. This is the basic stuff, the rest is all effects and further modulation.
