So been awhile ninjas

Post by deadly_habit » Mon Jun 09, 2014 4:27 am

I know I've been posting sporadically time to time the last half year, but here's what's been going on...

Was homeless for about 4/5 months, made it through that.
Back in my own place again in a nice part of Rochester, got back on my feet.
Back in school going for a masters or doctorate in Computer Science, knocking out as many credits as I can in Rochester before trying to transfer to Cornell. (3.6 last semester)
Still gaming, just not as much and not doing let's plays though gonna try to do some soon, still making music just nothing worth posting, added an MPC4000 to my arsenal which is what I made the track in my sig on like a day after I got it after crate digging a nice Buddy Rich 12".
That guy wasn't my twin, but I managed to track down my birth mother, talk to her a bunch. I have a half-sister somewhere in the area who is 3 years younger than me who I haven't tracked down and a half-bro who is 19 who I have contact details for but he has yet to talk to me due to his dad.

Life overall is going good with the occasional hiccups, but how have things been going round here?
Could use some new music recommendations as well since I'm so out of the damn loop sans major releases.
Also Constrobuz's new shit is great.

Not as bad as you think, it's bare essentials. Stayed in a shelter for all veterans which was interesting. Basically a bunch of recovering addicts and people with mental disabilities like myself (PTSD) under one roof.
A bunch of people worrying about what you do rather than what they need to fix aka pregnant woman rumor circle/high school drama. Within 2 months of being there I was already back in college and close to back on my own feet since they reminded me I don't wanna be these guys.
Being actually homeless isn't as bad as you think, an A-Frame in the woods outside of town (if you can rough it and get materials), or a pup tent works. panhandle/busk for money or dumpster dive for cans, wash your close and shower and bathe regularly you look normal and can go for job interviews etc. Being on welfare sucks ass, but not as bad as people make it out to be.
What irks me is being back on the net people making welfare out to be some handout for lazy people, when I paid into it for years, am a disabled veteran, wanting to work etc and finally needed it, that I should be rationed basic food.
I dunno man just being without a roof for a few months, or in a group/homeless shelter makes you change your perspective on a lot of things and if you weren't already humbles you down a few notches.

Basically being homeless at times is like living off the grid just in a city.

oh yeah and living in the woods no matter how large or small with a shelter, when you have food... you have to deal with rats. owning a hatchet/hammer/machete is essential to deal with those pests.

Tbf, it's probably just an undergrad thing, but I've never heard anything good about students at Cornell. Pretty sure they have the highest suicide rates of any Uni in the US too, they even have a 'suicide bridge' iirc. Not trying to throw you off, but consider carefully, visit it first, talk to graduate alumni if you haven't.
You're doing computing of some sort, right? Might be worth looking into some west coast schools.

A lot of them in major cities are vile places. Bed bugs and every commutable disease on the face of the planet available Free DL b2b severely ill people. I've been to a few cuz for a while when i saw a homeless person asking me for money i'd by them a meal and show them to nearby shelters when winter was around the corner. The struggle is hella real in Canada for 8 months of the year.

Big up putting yourself back together and not flopping. Wb.

Cornell has one of the best Computer Science programs in the states and being a NY resident I get a discount on resident, thankfully getting all my undergrad stuff done here before transferring. Visited the campus already and chatted with some grads.
