A few plugins causing MIDI latency?

Hey guys,

This has happened to me several times now, but I've only just been able to identify the problem... I have been using my DSI Tempest (drum machine) to make some sounds, and suddenly the device goes more out of sync. I've already adjusted the MIDI Clock Sync Delay in Ableton, but now I have to reduce it by a lot more to get it back in sync. I also noticed that my Push is giving me latency issues now. I figured out that it must be plugins or something along those lines because when I open up a new project, everything is fine.... I have a pretty fast PC, and I probably had no more than 10 plugins open on the project (Had barely started it). Surely this can't just come down to CPU/RAM????!! Is there something I'm doing wrong?

EDIT: It seems that one instance of Omnisphere is significantly affecnting the delay.... Just one?? I've never had this issue before. I've run Ableton with 10 instances of Omnisphere before and there was no delay... Argh

Thats 'Plugin Delay'

Where the commands you're asking from your software is so intense its taking a little over instantly to come about. It also happens with effects what work in real time, I know Ozone does this a lot if you use it in the project file and no on straight audio wavs afterwards.

I have got this with a few Omnisphere patches too, especially the effects heavy ones.

You want 'Plugin Delay Compensation'

I went through those links though and I don't think that is the issue I'm having. I just did some more troubleshooting and found out something that is making me question reality...

So I've figured out that my problem is definitely plugin delay, but I feel like something is very wrong...

I started a new project, and there's no delay. I added in quite a few instances of Omnisphere and each time I recorded a 1/16 beat high hat loop just to see if there are any changes in the midi sync. There was... but very minimal. As soon as I added in the Waves Linear EQ Broadband or Lowband plugin, the recording went completely out of whack.... Surely one tiny EQ plugin should not be completely fucking the sync.... On top of that, this is when the high latency began both on the Push and DSI Tempest. I have a fast computer, a good audio interface.... what the hell is going on here? Why are my plugins causing so many problems? I opened an old project with a at least 30-50 plugins on it (At least 5 omnispheres, etc) and there was no Push latency.... This is doing my head in... I really hope I can fix this....

Anyone able to help??

Surely increasing the buffer size would fix this issue... no? Either that or you need to upgrade your computer; specifically your processor and/or RAM depending on the specifications. I've never had an issue with latency with MIDI, that's really very strange... either that or you need to run ASIO4All, what's the overall latency you're getting according to your DAW?
