Re: TUNA! LIVES FOREVER
Yea. Actually I specifically chose to use those vocals off key. It sounds weird I know but I was actually liking the dissonance of it, but I can understand how it's a bit off putting.BudSpencertron wrote:@jbe
really clean production nice drums too i swear i know this crackle haha on the bassdrum
hm but i do have to agree that the vocals come abit off key at times not always does distract a bit
personaly dig those high pitched more haha
yeah would say just watch those vocals at time and its done
Also I know you've heard that drum before cause I'm pretty sure you have some of the sample packs I pull a lot of my one shots and stuff out of. Cause I've had the same thing happen when listening to some of the tracks from Blanc.
Anyway, now that I'm off for the weekend I actually had time to do stuff. So track should be set for this week.

Re: TUNA! LIVES FOREVER
guys, just letting you know i'm moving to a different city and i'll be between two flats for a while, not sure how much access i'll have to my production comp and/or internet for the next few weeks, chances are i won't be tuna-ing for a little while but i'm definitely coming back
now for the feedback:
@JBE: nice one, i agree with others that the snare sounds a bit out of place, maybe if you'd layer a snappier one on top of the existing one? then again, i got used to it on second listen, rest of the percussions is sick too. not much else to critique for me tbh, good job man!
@Bud: great sound design on the mid-range, maybe the whole thing is a bit bait for my current taste, thou i probably would have enjoyed it more in my previous life when i was into jumpup dnb
i don't know maybe i'd suggest putting a few hours work more in it to polish the edges and mess with the reeces a bit more, like go full neurofunk (not sure that makes sense, it does to me but...)
@m8son: as pointed out by Demain, the arrangement is really reminiscent of Mala. i like the way the track progresses, but i feel there's room for a couple more elements, maybe a vocal sample (used subtly) or a more complex melody on the second "drop". also, probably personal taste, but i feel like the percussions could sound a little less rigid, like idk, it sounds a bit too much "on the grid"? in any case, great work overall, big up.
@nwj: ah, some of these sounds are familiar, really like the way you recycled them. "greater than the sum of its parts" comes to mind
the distorted part is great, just the right amount of harsh, would be interested to hear how you achieved it, though i guess it involves your sp404 right? plus it doesn't have the typical nwj's extreme ADD arrangement!
re: the collab thing, as i said, won't be possible in the immediate future because of me moving but i'm still definitely up for it
@Jizzman: really feeling that groove you got going. great use of the strings samples too. one thing that irks me th is the kick/bass interaction, maybe its just my headphones, but idk i feel the kicks and bass should gel a bit more, like the kick sounds like it sits relatively high frequency-wise and your bass is super low... maybe if you'd layer a lowpassed thumpier kick on the existing one?
@Demain: really liking the arrangement, but i'm with m8son on the mixdown, it does sound a bit bright and maybe too cluttered, hard to pinpoint what exactly i'd suggest to do about it tho. maybe EQ out some of the higher frequencies in your reverb tails to gain some headroom? other than the mixodwn, it's really good tho.

What town are you moving to?
And to really get this collab going - let us talk about it for another year. The aroma will continue to mature.
Oh, and that distortion is actual vst. I can't remember at the moment, but I had something goofy going on, either some Kjaerhus chorus, or Wok Emonizer

Some Kjaerhus autofilter, I think...
and the distortion was done with this little honey:

Distroyr, by Atom Splitter.
All of that is freeware.

Super late reply (Was on my holidays)
@BudSpencertron - thanks man! just got back the other day so not this week, but I want to dedicate myself to the tuna!
@m8son - Chris I guessed this was you? But then I looked at the profile and I wasn't sure lolol?
Anyway, to the tunes...
JBE w/de TwistedPsykie: Vocals are lushh. Crackle at the start sounds great too. As others have said the snare is a little harsh, but I think it could definitely sit right in certain places.
BuddyBoy: Difficult for me to judge this one as its very different to my own style but I think that half time part could come in again towards the end to keep it focused?
MatrixSon: Oh shit it is you hahaha! So many aliases these days lol. I love the pads in the intro. That harsher synth that comes with the drop could have some more notes/variation and automation to change it up a bit and keep it sinister.
nwj: This one is creepy as fuck haha. I think some of the percussion and drums could be beefed up to keep with the weirdness of the track. I love how the whole thing distorts around 1.20.
Jizzy: Cool sample, real loose feel to it. I like the bass but it could have some more high freqs to it instead of just a sub.
Demain: Love the interplay of the diff elements after the drop, like quickly cutting from one element to the bass to a vocal snippet. I think the claps could hit harder and the mix should sound bigger to go with the song. Fuck knows how to do that but I mean the song is big and it would be better if the mix matched that.

banned? such a badman haha
yeah definitely, i don't think i'm getting any better at mixing/mastering anymore because i only mix the tracks i finish, and most stuff just stays as half finished loops. The listening sessions has forced me to finish stuff every couple months, and that definitely helps, so I'm willing to give this weekly thing a go!
