i am concerned i might be an idiot
so could anyone tell me their like basic 3/4 steps in cuing the second track

my current technique is;
1 cue track 2
2 put needle to middle of track where there's drums
3 use pitch control to get them locked so i have the bpms
4 take it back to the start and go off the first beat to give myself plenty of time for adjustments
(I often don't have a mixer with eq so can't really blend from middle as i mainly do 140)

this worked alright for a bit but it's slow and i found it fucked up bad on some stuff, i think when i was pitching up and down from the middle it wasnt like locking the correct bpm but shifting it nearer

i'm hoping it will force me to become some kinda beatmatching genius

and this is a temporary situation till i'm sharing my m8s when uni starts again

and i have tunes that have some light ambient intro that is kinda hard to judge the beat on

i'd be lying if i said i wasn't expecting this reaction

yeah cheers

think i was putting too much effort into trying to get tunes mixed in by the drop (got a lot of coki), should be on more of a rolling sound

You're over thinking it though.
Are you mixing the drums, yes or no?
So then why start in the middle of the track when you're after the first kick?

As you said, it gives you ample time to be shit at beat matching.
Which in itself is so piss easy any way.

The true skill comes in the blend and the tune selection.

That's kinda what RKM does as well, so that's all good.

With vinyl I do the same thing. I can't really cue it right up and then beat match it as it runs, so I make sure I have good sync and then cue the track. Doesn't matter where you drop the needle at first to beat match it, why is that a point of discussion :)

i mean i was going to the middle to try and get the bpms the same, then to the first beat to give myself as much time as possible to make sure it's synced in time to bring it in for the drop,

really i think i should be using the eq more and not worrying about the drop in every song but i ddo like the sound of bringing in the intro of rsd jah way (for example) into something else

I often listen to mixes and think about how other DJ's do blends, e.g. try to figure out small EQ changes, play close attention when a new tune comes in, count bars etc.

That being said, it's like riding a bike.
Once you can mix, you can mix.

I still believe that someone can be shit hot at mixing but ultimately boring as all fuck if the wrong tunes are selected.

That's just it gwa.
I never practice, hardly ever play anymore but when I do I don't plan or setup a set of any sorts.
I certainly don't practice mixing.
It just happens.
