Monitors that are kinda Hi Fi

Have you thought about getting some older speakers from as second hand store and a low-end amp? Your Sony is too clean/HiFi look for an amp with a higher true harmonic distortion rating than your Sony. Normally you want less THD, but in your case it seems you want higher THD. I think distorted mids are what you are wanting from a speaker...at least from what you described. I don't think it is actual sub frequencies that are making the boomboom you want, rather "over driven" mids. You could also try an older, crappy home stereo equalizer in the signal chain.

but will such a setup deliver sufficent low end though? here's the biggest issue I have with my current Hi Fi, is that the low end doesnt even exist. I want something that makes the low end boom and the mid and high end have a pretty decent frequency response.

you might have a point with this idea of something with distorted mids, but the thing is I do work with subfrequencies too and I'd like such frequencies to be considered by the monitors. like isnt there stuff that makes THOSE frequencies boom a bit, muddy it up a bit?

just monitors where critics' complaint is something like "while the mids and highs are flat and nice, the bass feels a bit muddy"

i was seriously considering those Mackies but Mr. Ronzlo's LOL'ing is now making me corndance in search for other possibilities

I've got a hifi set up in my room for DJ'ing, and its powerful as hell. Was about 100 for a pair of yamaha 3 way speakers, I built my own sub for dirt cheap, and i snagged an old Onkyo receiver for almost nothing at a secondhand shop.

Either way you're going to learn how your speakers sound and build your mixes around those.

Yeah the Krk 8s are quite 'boomy' and fairly nice (forgiving) sounding, the low end can fill a small room up nicely too. They tire my ears out pretty quickly though; always get bad ear fatigue when working with my homie that has them in his room.

And to clarify, Roland is not Behringer, or vice versa. Its pretty common for companies to buy products from an unknown-ish company and slap their own label on it though. "OEM" is a huge thing these days; look into it.

I always found KRK Rokits really fatiguing too. Even when I started at low volume.

I used ns-10's for years with great ear fatigue. Krk's I literally have done some 14 hour days. Fatiguing, but nowhere near as bad as the ns-10's.

Get a monitor that is accurate and accurately represents you sub content.

8 inch woofers, IMO.

You've read about the ns-10's but you don't understand their sound. Just get the best flattest sub content havingest you can afford.
