K so I got the body down by layering a few 707s, but the transient is bigger than the snare I wanna build and plus I can't get the right note for the tail. Am I resampling and recompressing too much? What frequency should I boost at to get the note of a tail?legend4ry wrote:Good samples don't need EQing. You shouldn't really be boosting, its better to have the source sample with the frequency spectrum what you need.
In terms of cutting - you should be cutting to make room for the sound within the mix.
Again, if you have to cut bad frequency spikes, it'll be better to find a cleaner sample to begin with.

I don't think you've heard a thing anyone has said in the last page. You're overcomplicating this so bad it's making my head spin

I have all the goldbaby packs and I havent looked back since.
Also, made the leap on buying HitKitV3 as per Legend's recommendation in another thread. Pretty much the best sample pack I've ever heard.
Bottom line: Listen to Legendary's advice

Okay. I get it now. I got good samples and I looked back on the advice you guys gave me
it helped a lot and now I think I'm done asking questions. Sorry for annoying you guys though with my questions though. But I'm taking your advice and using it for that snare
cheers to all you guys.

This is a bit of advice I would not take. I personally wouldn't buy anything m-audio, either controller or audio device. There are other affordable devices of better quality, from better companies. This is covered ad nauseam here, and everywhere else on the web, so I leave it to you, if you are thinking of buying m-audio.legend4ry wrote:That'll do the job.back_beat wrote:http://www.dv247.com/computer-hardware/ ... ce--104977
this 1 any good? USB bus powering is a plus, but is the hardware decent? This is all bedroom studio stuff so if it aint top of the line it dnt matter too much, 250 for that other maudio is tooo much atm
Re: Alright Newbies, Ask A Question

yo
started using the drum rack so i can choose which hits and sample i wanna use to make a beat,
i always drop a bunch of stuff in first then make a loop, then try and change the sounds with effects and tone/release/etc but when i change one thing it changes the whole drum rack, i tried taking the same sample and manipulating it in arrangement view then swapping it back in but fucked up the placement and find it difficult to work out exactly what i want it to do when working on one bit alone
so yeah anyway of changing shit in the drum rack

Re: Alright Newbies, Ask A Question
are you talking about ableton?
drop the effect on the specific pad that you want the effect to affect. if you drop it after the entire drum rack, it will affect all of the pads.
if you're using preset drum racks, don't use the macros. edit the tone (transpose) on the specific pad (sample) if you want to change the tone, don't do it on a macro, because then it will affect all of the pads/samples.

Re: Alright Newbies, Ask A Question
don't think i get you tbh lol. are you just trying to put a flanger on your hihats? drop it on whichever hihat you want or drop the same flanger on each hihat if there are several hihats that you want it on. or alternatively drag those hihats to another drum rack and then you could drop the flanger after that rack and it'll affect all of them.
you can also do sends/returns within drum racks by the way. that can be useful for getting the same effect on different samples but not all of the samples.
did you get that idea from kryptic minds btw? this kinda thing?
listen to the hihats at 2:46

Re: Alright Newbies, Ask A Question
nah, as i mentioned in the jungle thread, the break in dj crystl- warpdrive, has this effect on it which gives it this pinched effect and it changes during it,
i've managed to get something i like going on though, it's a little hi hat roll and i wanna have an effect on it which changes
however i clicked duplicate loop and it's kept the loop but not all the effects on it : /

Oh I'm not in that jungle thread but I'm listening to the tune now and I see what you're talking about. Yeah definitely sounds like flanger. All about using the LFO on ableton's flanger for that effect.
But that can be kinda tricky. Depends on if you're in arrangement or session view and what you're trying to do.
Duplicate loop is in clip view and duplicates the MIDI notes. If you click that little E at the bottom left to get into envelopes you can copy/paste the automation if that's what you need to the second half of the duplicated MIDI notes.RKM wrote:however i clicked duplicate loop and it's kept the loop but not all the effects on it : /

Re: Alright Newbies, Ask A Question
thanks, i assumed lfo wasn't that important because its a hi hat

Re: Alright Newbies, Ask A Question
ah my ableton is massively wyling out with cpu overloads, got a track with about 12 audio bits and layers, is there anyway to stop this every time i edit something i have to give it 20 seconds to calm down : /
