[VIDEO] Mathew Johnson makes a tune in 10mins

Post by wub » Mon Aug 11, 2014 2:16 pm

Taking the challenge this week, Mathew Jonson. Born in Vancouver, Jonson has set up one hell of a studio in Berlin - full of modular synths, drum machines and more - and on his Against the Clock he shows just now naturally he builds up layer of ambience over tweaked drum patterns with it. It's awe-inspiring, not just due to the amount of equipment or the ease with which he uses it, but due to just how damn fun it looks.

This is my favorite one of these so far. I was a bit skeptical at first, I was wondering how long he was going to spend tweaking patches and things, but those vibes were heavy. As soon as I saw him reach for the 808 a couple minutes in, I was like :6:

I love that he starts with notes, with melody, with harmony. Its already more than a decent start to a song before he goes anywhere near a percussion instrument. Yea, this is easily one of the best one of these I have seen. The only other I really remember being impressed by was the Goth Trad one.

Yeah, if you can get some big vibes going before percussion comes into play, when (or if) it does, it's game over.
