Question - How to use reverb on Reason.

Post by jakswag » Tue Aug 12, 2014 8:57 pm

Hey, I was wondering if anyone could tell me how to apply reverb to only the lower/high frequencies in reason without using it as a send and a filter, is that possible? thanks!

Using the spider audio splitter, run the output from synth into that, then use one of the splits into a filter, then to reverb then mixer channel. Set verb to 100% wet. Take another split into the mixer, this will be the full frequency.

Or, use a line mixer, still use the splitter, run it into as many channels as you want, with EQ then you can adjust different reverb on different bands.

Why don't you want to use sends?

come to think of it im not sure, i had this idea that it was just wrong doing it that way. but this is awesome, thank you! :) i'll give them a go - i love routing in reason it's so fun.

also, when to use reverb as a send? (or any fx for that matter) i mean, surely it's not always better? but more of what you think sounds nice and such. :L thanks!

I think sends are really the best way to use most effects, but especially reverbs. Easier to get a coherent mixture of different effects across your whole tune when using sends+minimizes the amount of CPU usage.

I just find using sends creates a much more easily controlled mix environment overall. (compared to having a bunch of reverbs for each channel)

haha you're still up :D

Yeah, i guess you're right since you know what frequency is being affected and stuff. it's just much harder to shape your sounds in reason 5 or earlier since you're a lot more limited compared to other pro mastering DAW's like logic, cubase etc. those daws give you much more analysis :( doing everything in reason is 100x harder but it makes it more educating and worth while :)

here's the synth i made, check it out :)

I really wouldn't worry about what frequency you're working to. One of reason's strengths is that its easierto use your ears than try to set things precisely.

Have you tried using Thor as a signal processor? That can be pretty good fun. http://www.soundonsound.com/sos/may09/a ... h_0509.htm

I have a startup template with 1 RV7 verb and 1 RV7000 already fed by auxes and returning to line channels. There's also EQs in the chain and even distortions, but those are on bypass.

The beautiful thing of the bypass option is that you can basically already connect a bunch of stuff without having any of the song written and just open up what you need and subsequently, add any other effect into the chain by just right-clicking where you want it.

The cool thing about returning to channels instead of aux returns is of course that you can very easily send the wet signal to some other aux or even the same one again. Watch out with feeding reverbs back though :) You can also safely automate these 'DIY feedbacks', but be careful with stopping playback, as it will keep the parameter at whatever value it is there.
In uni I used to do this on big analogue consoles, it gets better results, but it's not as safe
