@nowaysj yeah if some kind of mentality like that gained popularity here in iceland, it'd be so easy to basically jump and drop kick every visible foreigner. a lady has got to be prepared

wow that is pretty unbelievable. glad to hear you're alright, pretty crazy to hear first hand how the far right is making a comeback in europe
massive respect for what you're doing. it's more important than ever now
"We want a city that treats living spaces as living spaces, not as a capital generating investment objects."
i cant speak for phrex's personal reasons, but imo this kind of protest in general has parallels to stuff like camping out in a tree to protest deforestation, sit-ins to protest segregation, or occupying public spaces as the occupy movement did

this bit from the article talks about it (translated)kidshuffle wrote:Phrex doesnt seem like a homeless drug addict, thats why I was asking about why he was doing it.
Like I said I dont understand the mentality of someone who squats for, as you say, political reasons. I'd just like some insight from someone doing it, or someone who is for it. I

Re: squat attacked by fascists
argh. i posted a long text answering some of your questions. but browser on my smartassphone crashed or smth...
anyway: a bit shorter:
no, i'm not a "drug addict" or homeless. what an ignorant thing to say? situation is this: my gf lives with good friends of mine in a former squat. after the house got squatted ~10yrs ago they received a contract to live for free. mind that this house needed strong renovations and there was no heating at all nor a functioning bath. kitchen was also not really usable. no warm water too. they invested a lot of time and energy and now built a home with warm water in the bath and wood-furnaces everywhere. anyway. now the house got sold do a yuppi to invest in it. they (10 people living inside!!!) are forced to move out in 3 months. bow they are looking for a house.
so thats the situation. they want to stay together - bit this kind of "experimental living" (not the usual 1-4 people in an appartment-style) is not really accepted. houses they were looking to buy were all subject if speculation and left unoccupied for months and years before a wealthy family decides to move in. same goes with that farm we squatted. its empty since more than a Year. that situation is not acceptable in times where there isnt enough affordable space for living.
it was my personal belief in it, my solidarity and also because they are all my friends that i squatted too and helped out were i could. i am lucky enough to live with 6 people in a cheap house with garden, terrace and lots of room. but with every year getting a new contract for the next year.
concerning the fascist violence thats another topic i will speak about later.
one love
no love to the ignorant one.

Re: squat attacked by fascists
I mentioned the homeless drug addict thing. Sorry, wasn't aimed at you, just someone asked why people squat. I know a lot of squatters, and unfortunately a lot of them have a lot of problems such as drug addiction and mental health issues that have led them to be homeless and therefore squatting is their only choice. It's terrible really, as most of them are the kindest people I've ever met - they all put on free food for the homeless one a week out on the streets of Cardiff and will go out of their way regularly to help people in similar situations. They just get no help themselves.
Sorry for any confusion!
