I wouldn't bother sending this to anyone. I haven't listened to it, but think of how many people send mixes to these venues/promoters. A more effective way to get ahead is to find a way to meet these people, and give them a copy of your mix personally. It shows you're serious, and it puts a face to your mix if they listen to it. Your mixing skills aren't the top priority when it comes to getting gigs.

quite frankly that's bullshit fam

what do u think i'm gonna do, go around town with a bunch of CD's handing them out to club owners?? sorry mate but that's completely ridiculous. that's what people prolly did before the internet. i can't imagine of a situation where i'm gonna get a physical contact with a busy club owner or someone and hand them a fucking CD.

i know it sounds nice the way you put it, putting a face to a mix etc.. but i'm pretty sure if i walked to the office of any of the venues i've contacted shoving CD's in their faces they'd think i was some sort of creep.

but truth be told you're probably completely right about the fact that their inboxes are already crammed with gig requests and they most likely aren't looking for anyone. the best way to get a gig would prolly be to personally know the promoters and ting and get a gig as a friendly favour, but that's not likely to happen. but we just decided we'd try, just for laffs. it's not gonna harm anyone :corndance:

btw were not looking to impress by our mixing skills they're pretty mediocre tbh its all bout seleciton

dude just go to nights at the local clubs. i can't imagine there's more than one "deep dubstep/bass" promotion brand in your city, so go to their night, strike up a convo with the people who are running the thing (it will be obvious when you see them), and give them a CD.

would look much more old school true head junglist vinyl than mixcloud.

Kidshuffle has a point. You'll stand out more if you put the legwork in and give a copy to promoters face-to-face.

No need to into an office. Go to party. Find promoter. Talk to promoter. Give promoter CD.

Why not?

It's about everything. Selection, mixing, transitions, flow. A mix can be razor tight and boring as fuck, or it can have the best tunes in the world with mixing that sounds like a drag queen falling down a flight of stairs. Neither is likely to get you booked.

Travel to bigger cities, take a copy of your mix CD and examples of a few flyers. Go to the parties you want to play and speak to the promoters.

yes he has a point but the way he put it sounded so naive.

guess i could but nah :a: i mean i don't know bout your ends but it's all internet round here. either that or you're the one being asked to do a gig

you are of course correct, and i wasn't saying that selection is all that matters really, just that we really thought about it when making the mix

I might have sounded like a dick, but naive? Lol come on dude. As someone whos been in your position, and in the position of being a large scale promoter, I'm just giving you facts so you dont waste your time and get a legitimate shot at getting booked. I used to have kids sending me mixes every week to try and get booked, and we never took them seriously if they didn't put in the effort to give us a physical copy. Its like how a woman wont take you seriously if you're forever passive aggressive.

You say you dont wanna be that weird/creepy guy and I get that, but a promoter isn't going to see you in that light unless you touch their ass or something.

I don't see an issue with doing either tbh. Do both even. it's all relative to the guy doing the show.
