what is it with anglosaxon societies being so incredibly judgemental about smokers? I remember standing in front of a restaurant in Southwark, smoking a cigarette, when some jerk on the street paused, took a look at me and said something along the lines of "that stuff is bad for you, you know?"

ive never personally dealt with it cause i dont smoke often but yeah i really hate that as well. pinnacle of self-righteousness... as if people smoking aren't fully aware of the health effects

yeah i completely agree. my boss over the summer told me that smokers are one of the only groups of people that you can legally and acceptably discriminate against. like you can refuse them public housing and shit like that, at least in the US. and it's not like they aren't allowed to smoke in the apartment, you can refuse public housing to people who admit to being smokers but promise not to smoke in the apartment, and obviously you can evict them for lying if you catch them smoking even outside the apartment building.jrkhnds wrote:what is it with anglosaxon societies being so incredibly judgemental about smokers? ^^^ care to elaborate? because to me, that makes no sense at all. people have no business in what I do to my body. what about people driving cars in the inner city then? much worse for public health than smokers.

I've never had anyone comment on my smoking (when i smoked) other than my parents or girls being flirty but still obviously didnt want to taste your cig breath. Idk why you guys are getting picked on lol.
Also jesslem, you should probably just quit m8. Quitting smoking was the best thing i ever did. Its not even about the health its more about my goddamn wallet.

seems like no-one really knows yet, the long term effects of the vaporized chemicals on the lungs hasn't been studied for long enough.jrkhnds wrote:^^^ care to elaborate? because to me, that makes no sense at all. people have no business in what I do to my body. what about people driving cars in the inner city then? much worse for public health than smokers.

Re: Post Your Random Thoughts Thread!
This is my second time quitting (i was smoking 10 cigs a day minimum), and i went cold turkey. Its all about getting out of the actual habit of smoking. Instead of smoking on my breaks and lunch time, I bought these vitamins where you took three a day, so I'd take them instead of smoking on said breaks. Outside of work i just kept myself busy especially when i felt like having a cigarette.
It takes three weeks to make or break a habit, and I found that to be especially true while quitting (especially since 98% of the nicotine is out of your system after 2 days). After those three weeks i found my cravings weren't near as bad, and when i actually tried smoking a cig again my body rejected it immediately and i felt as shitty as the first time I'd taken a puff ten years ago. That realization has kept me off cigs for almost six months now and I haven't had any cravings since, even when people smoke around me, or if there is even tobacco in a joint.
If you never replaced the habit, chances are you wont get over smoking. Its like getting that rebound after you breakup with that lady you love oh so dearly. The longer you wait, the harder she is to get over
