If you saved up an extra £200 (approx.) you could maybe afford a second hand macbook, and once you get it upgrade it over time, I think they can only hold 2 harddrives, but external ones are cheap.

But if not then here's a few good ones:

Just have a look around that website, it's really good for computers/electronics etc.

Asus here. Less than a year old, can't stand up to a pc I built in 2009. Did only cost me $300 though.

I know someone who has the top one. It's truly awful! It's processor is way to slow.

I'd probably go with the 3rd. The processor is faster, and it has abit more memory. (I'd get an external harddrive or just replace it because its only 5400rpm which is pretty slow, same with the other if you get that).

The 2nd one isn't a bad choice either, it's good value for money and has a few more things with it, like an sd card, "sonic focus"., webcam etc. and It'll have a faster harddrive just simply because it has less memory and you can add up to 8GB of ram, which apparently you can't do on the other.

4GB is fine though, just make sure to to keep your harddrive as empty as possible if you want it to stay fast and you don't really wanna go over half, because that's around when it starts becoming noticeable.

Careful with lenovo. Some of them have trackpad and wifi connectivity issues.

Whatever you do just make sure it has an ssd and at least 8gigs of ram.

Another shout for Asus... my last laptop was a Sony Vaio cost a fair bit more and gave me UNTOLD problems. This Asus just does its job without complaining. Good boy.

Dell are always worth a look... especially if you can pick up a deal from their refurbed/unwanted systems.

I'd say Asus too, although mine was shit for audio work and the battery randomly died.. which
I think is just a 10% chance with any windows running laptop.

I had a fairly high-end Asus and it can't compare to my MBP. You mostly get what you pay for.

I mean there's models in distributions that certainly have the tendency to die
within a year. The Microsoft store recently had to pull back a build that didn't make it past
3 months and looking through some reviews on there, there's another winner :)
Seems to be mostly cheaper ones by Dell, but mine was €850,- Asus.

I'm sure it happens frequently with Mac stuff as well.
