How would Dubstep sound if it didnt split off?

I always class the District, Distance, J:Kenzo, Killawatt, Biome, DJ Madd, Kryptic Minds sort of sound as being classic dubstep but moving forward. Then you have the burial, some Khan tracks, Pahelea, synkro being the future garage sound. I'm not a fan of the brostep off shoot. I like nearly all electronic music with the exception of that brostep crap and electro house

Without insulting them but they're holding the sound back.

Silkie, Quest, Prism, Heny G, Chord Maraurders to an extent are all actually bringing something new and loads others what are not on the top of my head.

Most of those you listed (maybe minus Kenzo cause he has some brilliant tracks) haven't been innovating for a long time but instead stuck in a certain head space with never really expanding on it.

None of them are making a new Glamma, Learn or Lion VIP. It don't have the energy of grime with the class and production standard of the genres merged to create dubstep. Its just snare on 3 and 1/4 hats over some wobbley bassline.

i wouldn't put madd on that list tbh. releases on zam zam / lion charge / roots & future definitely stand out. i think the last 'dungeon' stuff he put out was years ago.

Silkie has done work yeah but his stuff is very similar, you can always tell a Silkie tune straight away(not saying its a bad thing, I like it, just adding perspective).
Quest has released 1 record in 4 years, great he's got loads of dubs, but its hardly pushing the scene forwards.
Heny G put out 1 Digi album last Jan and I cant think of anything else for agessss.
Chord Marauders are good I rate them.

What are they bringing that's new though? Stand/Eden was 2008 and they're still making jazzy dubstep. It's the same thing, just you prefer it.


J Kenzo's new stuff is really good, DJ Madd is absolutely smashing it at the mo, Roots & Future, ZamZam & Lion Charge. Biome's Lost Dubs on his bandcamp are brilliant. Killawatt runs Lion Charge, a really good label, with some great producers on there. Dunno what Distance is up to, gonna give his chestcast a listen on the drive tonight, never really rated District too much.

I like bangers too. I just think a lot of those guys ^ are missing energy from their music.

Triplets and an odd bongo line isn't energy. The amount of times I go outside for an hour during Youngsta sets these days.

Literally bores me to death, I don't get how people feel it - I'm not even being a hater, I wish I could enjoy it then I could go out more than once every quarter a year when theres a decent Dubstep night on.

i do rate some of the chord marauders stuff but it's hardly taking the sound somewhere new. they're best tunes sound like martyn, 2562 et al around 2008 - which is great imo but nothing new

There was the 3x 'mutant dubstep' compilations by Ebola, Cardopusher and someone else a few years back. They sent things on a breakcore/ragga/mega-turbo-grimey-tip

Imo the dungeon sound is kinda like a hybrid child of the 04-05 youngsta sound and some of what distance was doing (E.g. Night Vision). Obviously there's a bit more to it than that but it does draw some parallels to those sounds.

i think back in the original dubstep vs. brostep period people got scared of bangers, when they were emphasizing deepness against brostep-sound. but that was taking the pendulum swing way too far in the other side, and forgetting variation. it's all about being a banger without sounding stadium rock. i love bangers!
