but, alas, anyone sufficiently desirous of doing me harm
can invade my castle.

how fucked must it be being a survivalist,
infecting your family & neighbours with fear,
practising killing desperate people,
and thinking you'll survive every calamity if only you have enough food, water & guns stored

that was the message of "The Road" imo:
only the unfortunate will survive the nuclear holocaust
just as only savages will survive the total breakdown of society.

Whilst I'd rather be a savage than never being alive,
and would do whatever necessary to protect myself & family from competing savages,
I'd like to think I'd take every opportunity to enhance the survival chances of good people.
