Is Logic Pro a good DAW to learn?

Post by SCope13 » Sun Nov 09, 2014 5:38 am

No experience with production. Just started watching some Logic vids. Is it a good choice?

Logic is a really good DAW but hard work to get to grips with, I find ableton is a lot more user friendly personally

I have used all of the big names (assignments and personal projects) and I would say Logic is a good option to start out with. To me Live was not easy to learn at all, but 3.7 million people would completely disagree with that.

This may sound weird but:
For a starter, I recommend Live or Logic. I use Pro Tools and Reason and I think Cubase is
the best DAW.

Cubase is dope. I use live, very nice and good workflow for getting ideas together, you're going to want to sum your mixes/mixdown on something else (an actual console) eventually tho but until then its really fun and intuitive. I like it. Logic is good too, a bit more stiff to work with but the stock stuff in it is quality imo. You cant really go wrong really until you're a pro. Just make sure whatever you pick can host VSTi's thats the main one.

I don't produce, but the only DAW that ever managed to keep me interested beyond a couple of minutes is Fruity Loops.

I've used Ableton and FL before, seen Logic many times and have Reaper installed for regular use... Reaper wins my vote

Ableton has been gathering digital dust (digi-dust?) for a while now for me...

Logic is a fine choice to learn with imo.

Could anyone tell me how to drag samples into the playlist on logic? Can't figure that out and it's been 2 weeks.

i reckon go with logic

whether you decide to switch later or not, i think logic is a good choice to have a base understanding of music software

garageband, fruity (and even slightly ableton) are kinda a step backwards from daws like logic, cubase and pro tools. best to start at the top imo

Garage band isn't a DAW imo.

Not sure why you think FL and Ableton dont hold up to the other DAWS you listed.

But there are seriously 100's if not 1000's of these threads in the production section.

Also, why is it best to start at the top?

.
i dont think they're inferior but they do seem a lot more user friendly and somewhat simplified. starting on something like logic would give you a good understanding of how music software works so moving onto fl or live would be easy if you choose to do so. i think if u start on fl or live you may struggle to move onto logic/cubase/protools

IMO lyk
