This is really just what it means to be an employee. I highly doubt this kind of behaviour goes on indefinitely, and if you have such a problem with this behaviour there's nothing stopping you from making that clear. Of course you should expect to face consequences if you ever fail to do so afterwards, but an employer who is certain that you can do your job won't tell you to do it. That's why they don't tell you do do stuff like breathe and wake up and stuff like that, unless you aren't breathing or waking up and stuff like that. Just reminding you of the essentials of employment.

If they didn't want you about they'd fire you instead of telling you the right thing to do in order to stay there. Just keep up the good work and get on with your day imo.

What you are describing is an understanding manager with an education in a cushy workplace environment with an established hr department that critically observes the behavior between employees, which is probably less than a fourth of any blue/light-blue collar job. If anything, its a management perspective.

Until you have been told by the owner of a shop that you are a "fucking worthless piece of shit that can be fired at a drop of a hat thanks to work at will laws", has cut your hours out of passive aggression down to 0, made you get down on your hands and knees to clean a bathroom even though you have a perfectly good mop, breathed down your neck every 3 minutes to ask what you have been doing and how you have been doing it, you cannot understand what a bad manager/micromanager is like.

The fact that you "highly doubt this kind of behavior goes on indefinitely" shows me that you have yet to experience what being an average employee is really like, and you are one of the lucky people who managed to jump over that bullshit.

It's as if you think other people are robots. Bosses have these things called "personalities", just like their employees. Some are jobsworth dickheads and act accordingly.

You might understand when/if you ever join the real world.

I think you both are misinterpreting it a bit.

I agree it's somewhat deluded, but more in the sence of seeing the positive in an unrealistic light. Expecting too much from people maybe but not so much about 'robots'.
