Re: Post Your Random Thoughts Thread!
why do I even bother uploading anything to soundcloud anymore. I uploaded a tune yesterday and got fucking 11 plays. I mean like years ago I used to get tons of likes and comments in a day when I posted a new track. and those tunes were embarraslingly shit even! now no-one fucking even listens to my tunes. Is it because my followers aren't active users anymore or what. sucks ass, not gonna lie when I make a track I want people to at least listen to it, not one of those hypocrite dicks who claim they make music "for their own enjoyment"

Re: Post Your Random Thoughts Thread!
lol, if only there were ways to post links on forums you are active on

soundcloud is too cluttered like all social media
unless you have a big prescene then just putting somethig up wont guarantee anyone paying attention
a more casual user needs to back it with some kind of attention
even if its oly a forum post of a facebook twitter status

i just hit 3000 total plays on my SC account, I've been uploading tunes on there for like 3 years.
Lol SC is a fuckin joke, its seriously a circle jerk for the most part. Like 4 like, comment 4 comment vibes.

Re: Post Your Random Thoughts Thread!
bit rich to moan about a platform that allows you (and thousands of others) to upload and distribute your music largely for free. could always buy 5000 likes for $5 if you really want them.
Re: Post Your Random Thoughts Thread!
want to clarify my own stance here,
I love SC for what it is, seriously incredible platform for uploading and finding tunes.
I just think its a terrible idea to get hung up on the whole "listens/comments" type atmosphere that SC has developed. It turns music making into a video game imo. Who got dat high score?

you dont give people an opportunity to comment when you call one ½ hypocrite dicks and it's a very bad look tbh... why not have a link in your sig for example?topmo3 wrote:why do I even bother uploading anything to soundcloud anymore. Re: Post Your Random Thoughts Thread!
What do you expect to get from something like Soundcloud in 2014 seriously, though?
There is a frankly ridiculous number of people between the ages of 13 and 40 that make electronic music as a hobby and half of them reckon they're good enough to "make it". No matter how many barriers to entry are knocked down with cheap, user friendly DAWs, free Internet promotion and cheap electronic distributon there will always be one major barrier left - people only have so much time to listen and so much money to spend. At this point, Soundcloud is a lottery, like most of the rest of the music biz has been since the 50s... if you're lucky and/or savvy enough to get your head above the parapet then you might be able to gain some traction, but the hard-working muso receiving no attention and no money is hardly a new situation; it's just that it used to be 1 in 20 music fans with their heart set on a career... now it's probably 1 in 3; there's more competition and so necessarily a smaller proportion of people will "make it".
Keep it old fashioned. Play out. Tour. Release things with more gravity than a single upload to Soundcloud. Work harder than everyone else. The Internet is a set of tools, it's not an instafame-machine.
