Alternatives: Just don't do it.
take up hiking if youve got someone suitable near you

core strength and flex willbuild naturally and its a good cardio booster

Doing plenty of cardio at the moment, and other than walking the streets, there's nowhere good for hiking within really an hours drive from my house. Plus, I'm just looking to do an hour here or there most nights, rather than spend hours hiking.

Cheers though.

Anybody else got any advice on where to begin?

My lady swears by Kundalini Yoga for flexibility, but there seems to be an awful lot of spiritual bullshit that comes with it so I expect there are some better disciplines to find. The stretches/balances are proper good though... I'm always surprised with just how difficult and knackering a lot of the stuff is, especially for blokes.

Hiking wouldn't do much for your flexibility if you're already fairly active, I wouldn't have thought... cross country running might be a shout as you'll be constantly using different muscles to keep your balance. Gareth Bale says so according to the FIFA commentators anyway.

My (usually pretty level-headed and logical) lady got up from the floor the other day and said "You know, I think one of my chakras is out..."

I can't. :u:

For mobility don't look at yoga, look at gymnastics. Still the masters in strength in big range of motions.

Yeah, it's a good idea, crucial thing that has me leaning towards yoga is that I can do it in my front room, the amount of gymnastics I can do in there is v. limited. Looking for something pretty chilled to do in between gym days/after gym.

Thanks all.

To be honest, i've got a gymnast class once a week. The rest I do in my own room. It isn't just about working on the apparatus. There is so much mobility knowledge, which you can easily do at home.
Not sure where you want added mobility. Some things I do:
Shoulders = dislocates with a stick (you can add some weights, but you don't have to.) or reverse planks.
For legs I usually do some kind of PNF stretching. Either with my girlfriend or with some weights or rubber bands which I have slinging around. I also do weird squat variations, like deck squats, cossack squats, hawaian squats.
I've got a wrist routine which I do.
Your body will feel reborn after some mobility work.
