Re: Barely Alive - Shudder Scream??
I've always wondered how they make this sort of "screaming" wobbles/growls (KillSonik and Zomboy for example). I feel like there's either shit loads resonance on a filter/eq and some specific type of distortion after that in the fx chain to get that fuzzy quality, or lots of automation on fm amounts in FM8, or both, or some weird shit I don't know anything about. Don't know if you could make this out of a simple high pitch bass/lead where you detuned 2 sines or triangles 3-5 octaves apart and distort that.
Re: Barely Alive - Shudder Scream??
I managed to create a very similar sound in massive by running groan IV, carbon, and screamer through scream and bandpass filters, and then I automated the filters with a performer set to the rhythm that the bass has in the song. I also put the performer on the pan knob just a bit to add stereo, and also on the boost and frequency knobs. Then I added sine/para shapers and the b tube and phaser/ringmod and a tad of dimension expander. I can imagine if you spent time with a similar setup as this and then did a lot of post-processing, you could get the sound.
