you must have proper shit music taste-Oasis' debut album is widely regarded as one of the best ever in "top 100" lists- Stone Roses epitomised their era and their comeback was widely recieved-as was/did James'-The Smiths-need I say more? I urge you to listen to more New Order. I think you're dismissing bona fide good bands and naming one "great" band.

Oasis and Stone Roses are regarded highly in the mainstream bullshit music press aimed at idiots who like middle of the road nonsense. Large sales don't mean fuck all. Oasis just churned out bland Beatles rip off tracks combined with some of the sound of general 90s British music with lyrics about being an everyday boring tnuc in the 90s. They appeal to mouth breathing Carling drinkers.
New Order basically were what happened when you take a collapsed Joy Division and get them to reform writing boring pop music with none of the dark atmosphere or post punk edge that Joy Division had
The Smiths wouldn't be so bad if it wasn't for Morrisey singing exactly the same thing over every track complete with corny as fuck lyrics. Add in then that he's probably one of the most annoying people in music as a person and it makes it even more difficult to like his tuneless warbling.

Don't you like metal though?

I've never heard any metal tracks that have a pretentious Mancunian croon aimlessly barely in tune and in time about beautiful cows like Meat Is Murder does.

I'm not being a snob. It's not high brow vs low brow music here. It's about bands that lack any content (and The Smiths who destroy any content they may have thanks to Morrisey being the main delivery method) combined with the flawed argument that appealing to the everyday knob on the street makes music instantly above any sort of criticism when the everyday knob on the street also thinks Carling, Hollyoaks and The Sun newspaper are also acceptable things to enjoy.

Those aren't music though. They're also as close to being objectively shit as drink,tv and journalism can be.
Point is I like plenty of pop music, simple music or shallow music. If it succeeds in doing what it's trying to do and achieves an emotional response it's good music regardless of if it's four chords and about getting pissed up or a full symphony. Oasis doesn't do shit. It's just bland and latched onto being something that has universa musical inoffensiveness and matches the personality of the people who hear it and generally don't care about music beyond it being on in the radio in the car inbetween Chris Moyles' crap banter.

it's their ½ lad and ½ offensive persona on top of being bland and inoffensive musically that is their appeal (even the mildly sympatic noel seems to think so)
like a chelsea the band

Yeah donk is from Bolton really. The biggest events are the Wigan Pier ones though.
There was a record store I used to go to in Bolton (had family there) that had a huge selection of vinyl on the basement level but then at one end it had another tiny room within the room. This room was in fact actually an entirely separate record store from the basement that it was contained within and only sold donk records.
