Best vst synth around

So right now I have Massive as my primary synth. I love it and I am able to make practically all of the bass sounds that I need to make, but I feel as though it suffers with making nice smooth higher sounds such as plucks and softer supersaws. I have debated getting sylenth for a while now because I have heard that it is great for that sort of stuff, but wanted to see what everyone else's opinions on what their favorite synth is and why.

Get Nexus 2, expensive but big presets collection once you have the good expansions

Or you could get Sylenth1 which is really good for all-round edm stuff and supersaws are a big use for me of the vst

sylenth1 is whit no doubt the most usefull, simple and satisfyng synth i' ve ever used in my life.

ok I have heard that serum is awesome for making awesome bass sounds but how is it with pluck, supersaws, and higher frequency sounds? Sounds so far like sylenth is the favorite...I know it has nice presets, but how is it for making your own sounds?

i find serum to sound really nice and bright compared to other soft synths. good effects built in as well.

I would think about an FM synth if it isn't in your lineup. You have a lot more control of a sound in FM than from static wavetables.

Having said that though....I just got Serum a couple of weeks ago. I am really happy with Serum but it sounds just like Massive. Serum can almost replace Massive...you have a ton of wave table options and a slew of better FX in my opinion...you can custom draw in a wave shaper curve..that is awesome! Massive still has the mod osc function though and I think that is where it holds its own.

You can get supersaws out pretty quickly...any sound really. Getting a good sub bass out is pretty easy as well. In 30 seconds you can make really awesome sounds so it has that walk up and get results quick feature...you can't say that about FM synths so much.

I don't currently have an fm synth, but have been considering getting one. The main reason that I do not have one is because typically fm are great for growls, but as you can tell from the songs in my signatures, it isn't necessary with my music to have large complex growls. I'm sure that at some point I will aquire fm8 or sytrus (if they make a mac version), but for right now the sounds that I am most focused on making that are more difficult to make sound good in massive are the supersaws and plucks. I will look up some reviews of serum because it looks awesome, and I'm glad to hear that it is good for more than just low end basses and growls. Does it have any good factory presets to build off of or is it more of a start from scratch thing like massive?

I grew up on Sylenth, but now I found it not satisfying enough... it's not bad for supersaws, but sometimes it sounds soo cheesy... also it's horribly overused (Nexus please) and it didn't gives you so many posibilities like Spire... My vst to go is 100% Massive, my long time buddy... it's not good for supersaws but If you like to experiment it's great tool. All these daft filters, and modulation is solved perfectly, which in Sylenth is good only for basic filter env, pitch modulation is bad there... I also recommend Serum, however, I still didn't get into it much and Spire, which has pretty good saw leads as well.. for pluck sounds my plugin of choice is harmless and if i want to create more unique sounds FM8 is way to go!

I agree about massive...right now it is the only paid vst synth I have and basically the only one that I use for pretty much everything. But as you said, I find that it is limited for supersaws and plucks, and even from layering a lot of sounds together, the supersaws still sound quite similar. Let me know what you think about serum when you get into it more because it seems that everyone loves it thus far. I have never heard of harmless...who is it made by?

Harmless is Harmor's little brother. It is made by Image Line, makers of FL Studio.

Ok so I looked into it and it looks as though imageline has put up a lot of their plugins for test with mac users. You just need an imageline account in order to have access to them. Any idea if there is a catch to this? Just signing up for a free account and downloading them seems to good to be true xD.

well I guess it wasnt too good to be true...just downloaded the plugins and minihost modular from imageline and they seem to be working really well. The pack came with harmor, harmless, sytrus, edison, vocodex, etc. Awesome stuff!

Cool! Image Line seem like pretty cool guys. Cool enough for me to give them $225 lol. I'm on a PC so I have no idea how anything Mac related works but I'm glad it's working for you!
