Native Instrument Massive Users..

I have a love/hate releationship with this..

Most intuative synth i've used, but..

No pure triangle, or sine waves on the osicalltors? Pretty much the back bone of any dubstep bass..

Futhermore, the presets arent to my taste, yet there is no usergroups to listen to other sounds, and customise..

Anyhow, is there anyone who swears by it, and got good results, because its at a stage now where im thinking ditch it, or keep on pluggin away at it..

Yeah, me. It and Albino are the only softsynths I've got.

There's plenty of pure sine waves, you just gotta understand how the oscillators work. They're not quite wavetable, not quite granular, but somewhere in between... For example, 'Sin->Square' gradually shifts from a sine wave to a square when you move WT Pos left to right. 'Acid' is a saw wave going through a 303-esque res sweep as WT Pos goes from left to right

So basically you can either choose an osc like 'Sin->Square' and move WT Pos all the way to the left, and you have a sine wave. Or you choose pretty much any osc and move Intensity all the way left, which removes the harmonics, leaving you with a sine.

For a triangle, just choose 'Sin->Triangle', and move the WT Pos all the way right. You have a triangle. Now roll a little bit back off, and this will make the peaks less sharp, giving you something of a more analog triangle.

It's an immensly powerful synth once you get into it, and it can do anything. Big lush atmospheres, analog-esque stuff, best wobbles in the biz imo. You can even make beats on it. I love it.

Yeah, I use it a lot. However, i'm just getting to grips with it. But I do think its fantastic. Seems to be a good one to learn to 'program' a soft synth.

I love it, still learning the ins and outs.. unfortunate you can't automate the lfo when its sync'd... but other than that, so much to learn...

thanks Auan..the wavetable postions is something i looked over a bit, bewildered by having more than 4 oscilator shapes..

absolutely a great synth.
really sweet interface makes for some creative synthesis.
The sound is ultra fat. up there with z3ta and albino for my favs in terms of raw sound. It's my fav in terms of sound designing.

It's just so easy and user-friendly and soooo much fun to use.

indeed... i think i'll finally tackle the manual tonight.. i been messing with it for a month or two now, but i'm sure there are heaps of features i'm overlooking

Use the Performer for synchronised LFO fun. There's a BIG tip for you. Performer gives you IMMENSE control, like a 'lite' version of Absynth's sync-able multi-point envelopes. You just draw the wobble right in, and it doesn't even have to go straight up and down either...

I have it but I have hardly used it, just messed about with the presets and that, sadly I have a poo processor so I can't really do anything to great with it without getting a crackle sound =[ hate my PC....

Anyways yeah I quite like it but I assume you can't just be a preset whore with it, so its not for me since I have very poor knowledge when it comes to the technical stuff.

Good plugin though just wish I could use it properly

Just lower the sound quality. How you do it depends on the version, but I think you find it in the Voicing tab for most of them. Set it to Global - Eco and work from there.

Ok, never fear folks...

The Synced Lfo Automation is going to come, not in the next update, but trust me, this is a SERIOUS issue at NI right now.

Also, the initial question, of where's the clean waves....

When you pick the options such as "Sin-Square" or otherwise (the first few options) the clean waves are full left or full right on the WT Position knob.

A little confusing I know. but thats how you get one or the other. They did it this way, so you could easily morph from one to another, or get a saturated sound, a little more squared sin wave, etc.

Making a video now, covers some of this.

With the bass sounds, preset hopping wont get you far. Its easier to simply open a new project and start with simple sounds, and get your bass that way.

As far as the crackling, try raising your latency.

God, I deal with the tech stuff all day, and HATE IT. Yet here, its incredibly easy to regurge.... hahaha

This is good to know, something that really bugs me about massive. What video's are you doing?

Also anyone want to upload some presets, ill try to get some up later though there nothing special?

This helped me endlessly, about the most intelligent post I've seen on a forum in a long time. Thankyou. With synthesis you really do need to RTFM.
