it's tagged as ?? and its this hypnotic, droney noise thing I've heard so many times on his rinse sets. I think he said a few times that it's something special....

pearson sound - gristle

in fact loads of the tunes on there i recognise as bits that have been played in the hessle show for months and months, the ambient-ish ones especially. sounding like a very solid album
nice one. i guessed it was from his forthcoming lp after searching for hours without results.

guessing they were expecting/hoping for more straight beats or smth idk. probably not listeners of the show either?

i think it's a really good album. perfect length too, doesn't overstay its welcome like most electronic music albums tend to do. also more of a grower, making you listen, which is always a good thing.

in RA they say they miss melodies, but what i think is that people expected club oriented bangers to imagine themselves playing them covered in champagne while they dj.

a lot of people were expecting "more of the same"; i.e. Starburst b2b Untitled ten times in a row. long interludes with fancy melodies.

I like the album very much.

lol that RA review is peak
andrew ryce should stick to doing interviews and features and leave the reviewing to other people.

yeah, I find the album really great as well. Cohesive and with a distinct atmosphere - was really surprised by the RA review

+1 this is what i think makes it stand out.
the album is clearly intended to show off 9 different experiments that he did in the studio, or at least that's the way it comes across to me. and he presents it in a way that makes it feel like one cohesive whole.

what pissed me off about the RA review is the phrase 'no particular direction'. i mean these are club tracks and semi-ambient tracks, not bloody aphex twin lol what do you expect, these aren't 'songs'
quadrant dub is one of the least 'directed' tracks that ive ever heard, but its universally praised haha i dont see where this boundary lies

Andrew Ryce probably thinks Quadrant Dub is overhyped (obviously it was shit to begin with and he told everyone so already back in '98) and nowhere near the artistic genius of PC Music's output.
