Re: Music from the Arab World
Guys, Nancy Ajram, Hayfa Wahbi, Hakeem and all that shit is like the equivalent of Avril Lavigne, Britney Spears, Beyoncé, Rihanna in the Arab World.
Try names like: Sabah Fakhri, Fairuz, Abdelwahab, Abdelhalim Hafez... for the the old classic arab music. But there are also more recent good arab music. I've been raised with these sounds (I'm from Tunisia), so I'll be happy to give you some advice if you're looking for something in particular
Also, there is no Arab music... each country has its own music, sure there are many influences between them but sometimes music from two arab countries have nothing to do with each other.
Check this one (remixed by El Mahdy Jr in his Ep Rai Dubs)... a good example of Raï music from Algeria:

But you're not correct, they are 'not' equivalent in the sense that it's still pretty good despite being super commercial. That was my point

Like Hakeem has drums for days it's not Madonna

Point taken with the Arabic notions.
It doesn't make sense at all to put it like that.
But I dont want to say muslim music either you know what I mean?

Re: Music from the Arab World
You're right, what I meant is that when you live in an arab country, you always hear Hayfa Wahbi, Nancy Ajram and the likes of Hakim even when you don't want to. They are everywhere, in the radio stations, cabs, cafés, tv (Rotana is the main tv channel broadcasting video clips of arab pop music)... they're like the pop you hear in the mainstream radios and tv in your country. Lucky you, you can hear this music and find it pleasant, exotic, whatever can draw your attention.
I was just surprised to see Nancy Ajram and Hakeem being posted in DSF
