who knows! it's continuation vs mutation innit. things aren't simply continued, innovation is injected, as are other influences, serving to change sound, let alone any conception of genre. i think this burial record comes more out of the dark ukg days and i don't think early dmz and kode9 productions have been crucial in it's production.

people will 'get' this record and understand it without being familar with dubstep or without a predilection for it. That said it is obviously part of the dubstep spectrum, which is ultimately in flux and really still being defined now after 6 years or so.

the dubstep template is so nebulous which makes it very difficult to conclude what would have happend with or without certain artists being part of it. Burial's sound, for me, presents 'dubstep' with another fractal element...

I digress.

Same as kode 9 -- those tunes sound nothing like dubstep, while being vital and defining examples of the genre.

that's an interesting proposition, no? taking out the value judgement i mean.

I dunno how to take it. I mean, mutation just means evolve - for better or worse - and i thinks it's crystal that dubstep and grime evolved out the ukg scene. Forgetting the bullshit about 'devolving' (just cos its stripped down in some respects doesn't mean its regressive!), I guess the point is there are always different ways things can evolve, and burial takes it somewhere somewhat different from everyone else. To me, thats what makes his music so inspirational (at least, thats one reason (he did it all on soundforge

) But there will always be similiarities between burial and other dubstep artists cos they all evolved out of the same scenes.

I'd give my right arm to book burial, but from what i read, by his own admission he can't DJ...

And as ever, great artists don't always make for great live shows... they do make for bare forum threads though. Maybe we should set up burialforum.com?

nothing duff on here,quality control is tight from this man.feeling southern comfort+gutted at present. i think he listens to alot from the basic channel boys,prayer is ridiculous,forgive-mmmmm. best lp this year so far,this will def have a long shelf life, there's only good+bad music and people who like good music need to do themselves a favour and grab a copy of this!!
