DISTORTION....
Ok
SO i just realised the other day, i don't really have many plug ins for distortion, for use on things like snares...
i have the giutar rig unit etc.. for bass, but i don't have a specific one for other instruments.
ofcourse my DAW has its own distortion unit, but cubase aint as renound for its DAW FX as lets say, Logic is...
can anyone recomend anything!?

Ohmboyz have a new multiband distortion plug called Omicide. I use it a lot its got dynamics for each channel and shit loads of features that make sense plus the usual preset morphing. Spikes my CPU meter in Live although its since been up dated. Look the shit aswell.Auan wrote:Predatohm for something a bit more nasty.
You can be gentle with it if you resist the temptation to dial in that bit more sonic mayhem- which can be hardWhineo wrote:Ohmacide is the Tits - really takes distortion to the next level - quite easy to use and the gate one each individual band gives you some real interesting results.
It not the best if you are just looking for a plain overdrive etc... its far too overpowering for that I find.

Trash
Fully featured. It's pretty crazy.
Chris Reed's Crunch is also a good (free) one. It's not as fully featured as Trash, but it sounds great and the price is right.
Unfortunately, Roland sent him a cease and desist order just because his UI featured something that resembled a Roland pedal. It's not on his page anymore, but you might still be able to find it somewhere...

Distortion... how I love thee. Digital distortion is great, but don't neglect the potential for analogue effects. Bounce the track, then take a line out of the interface, and experiment with anything you can find or borrow. Like:
Cassette decks, either recording to tape and back off, or just driving the inputs.
Analogue mixers - dj or whatever, just lash it through and whack up the gain. I have a tiny Yamaha MM10 mixer, and it is wicked on synths, just whacked the input over to mic.... instant acid!
Guitar amps and effects - guitarists spend TONS on distortion. See what they've got and throw some crap through it. Miking guitar amps is fun, i know you can do it in software, but its fun playing with real stuff.
Anything that has an audio input, really. Or lots at once. My ancient organ, (ho ho) a 1940s valve radio.....keep an eye in junk shops!

Digital distortion is yuck.
I love overdriving analogue preamps or using guitar pedals. This is the badboy though -->
