To be fair, im pretty sure it was more dubstep -> grime? (Im sure ive missed the point here, and that I just made a HUGE simplification of something that shouldnt be simplified...but...shut up)feasible_weasel wrote:stop taking everything so personally...jim wrote:STOP. Exactly. There are some wicked wobble tunes about but if they're played next to a dozen tunes that are basically from the same template they lose their appeal...judge_mortis wrote:thats what a bar is for.
have some less full on stuff in there,
Any decent DJ should take it deep every now and then.
Dont misunderstand me, I not against music with depth and feelin ,all good tunes should take you to another level.
Its all about contrasting and switching.
I just reckon people vote with thier feet.
this is possibly the stupidest thread ever. are you saying that tunes can't be ravey if they dont have wobbling bass? er.... try familiarising yourself with some more musical history and get an imagination. and the tunes that continue define this small but growing scene are by a handful of producers who innovate. innovation was the reason it ever became anything at all. not brainless repetition.
i think everyone who played at our rave last night proved that really - barely a wobble in sight!!!

different strokes for different folks, whatever ur tastes theres plenty of nights/producers to cater for all tastes, how boring would it be if we all just liked one particular sub genre? this whole thread is like a big arguement about whats better, beefburgers or chocolate muffins.

absolutly, variety is the the key to keepin it movin,
of course I am not sayin that a tune cant rocka dancefloor if it aint gota LFO wave drivin the bass.
My point is that the general 'anti wobble' blah seems to basically diss anything that just keeps it simple and heavy, rather than goin into 'deep 'production territory.
I remember the 'Intelligent Jungle' thing of 95/96 and how wishy washy the music became for a while as people tried to out 'intelligent' each other.
This resulted in the birth of happy hardcore.
a warning from history...

I'm getting a weird feeling of deja vu here, but NO THEY AREN'T. I might be generalizing here, but it seems like the vast majority of 'anti wobble' people aren't actually anti wobble (or anti jumpup or anti halfstep or whatever), they just like to hear (and love dubstep because they frequently can hear) a bit of innovation and unpredictability and oh-my-god-what-the-hell-is-this when they go out. They don't mind the bangers per se but they get a bit bored if every tune follows the same build / drop / wobble template and they maybe complain if they go to a whole series of nights where that happens. I've only seen about two people on this forum who actually seem to generically dislike anything high energy / wobbly / ravey because they'd rather sit in a corner and cry.judge_mortis wrote: My point is that the general 'anti wobble' blah seems to basically diss anything that just keeps it simple and heavy, rather than goin into 'deep 'production territory.
Yeah, it'd be boring as hell if people began to equate 'deep' or 'interesting' with 'earnest' and 'no fun'. But I don't think that's anywhere near happening at the moment.I remember the 'Intelligent Jungle' thing of 95/96 and how wishy washy the music became for a while as people tried to out 'intelligent' each other.
this is why people hate on you, because you post complete and utter fraff believing it's true. Dubstep was grime?? Why don't you learn about these things before just making shit up.feasible_weasel wrote:remember this stuff was grime before ppl decided to split off.

Fucking hell man, engage in some internal dialogue before you post any more, please, because the absolute twaddle that you type on an hourly basis is just ridiculous.
Yeah, not all but it's not something I want to hear for 95% of the night (which I generally seem to). Think I shall be saving my money and just going to the nights that have something other than halfstep on offer. Really tired of the fact that the majority of dubstep comes down to either minimal or wobble when there's plenty of other styles so under-represented that they might as well not exist.badger wrote:wouldnt say its all boring but i know what you mean. certainly can get tiresome especially when you get lots of the same on a night outShonky wrote:Am I the only one here that thinks that both dark, minimal and jump-up wobblers are fucking boring.
I remember when this was all garage
Hmm....

I've gotta say that over the last month or two I've only been disappointed by the variation in selection at one night I've been to and that was mainly due to a non-dubstep crowd at an unusual venue. I end up going to at least 2 nights every week, often more, and I really think that the scene is getting to be more interesting than it was not too much earlier in the year. DJs oneman, deapoh, scientist are playing out some utterly sick mixes of tunes from the whole spectrum and history of Garage/dubstep/whatever and rooms are seriously going off. To be honest I think that the people complaining about the lack of selection and wobble fests probably aren't going out enough.

I come back wishing my chest had been rattled rather than having my ears destroyed by mid range.judge_mortis wrote: Seriously, who comes back froma decent night out wishing the music had been a bit deeper and less in your face???
I don't really like in your face music and I never have; but I don't mind a bit if it's all mixed up with different styles and Stanton while I don't doubt there are many djs around mixing it up quite a bit they don't seem to play north of the Watford Gap that much (or if they do it happens to be on a weeknight
