Shackleton is a pioneer, he, Burial and Appleblim are on a mission of their own. They need a sub-genre to themselves, it's not really dubstep at all, is it?
Take Sam's Pole remix - is it just me or does it sound like a Bela Lugosi's Dead for the 21st Century?

SIMIAN MOBILE DISCO / SHACKLETON - Hustler (Shackleton / Kevin Saunderson Mix) Wichita 12" // £4.99
I got a copy in the post today
""" boomkat quote """"
**Purple Glitter Vinyl** Once again this is completely and utterly Shackleton's show, and like the Burial/Bloc Party hookup from a couple of weeks ago, the arguably incongruous source material has teased out what to our ears is the finest material from Shackleton since the peerless "Blood on My Hands" last year. "Hustler" is quite easily the most technofied of all of Shackleton's impressive productions to date, and its kinda unexpectedly breezy to boot. Built around a padded 4/4 structure, effervescent dub chords, staggered snares and all manner of disintegrating sonic splinters, this really is for all intents and purposes a "Shackleton does Dub Techno" session and will no doubt see hoards of heads operating at the frayed edges between Dubstep and Minimal Techno jumping on board for inspiration. In place of shackleton's signature bleak narration, "Hustler" manages to eek out a suitable counterpart, sampling the original's "you gotta do what you gotta do to stay alive"to create a kind of inspired hybrid of angsty BASS music and propulsive twilight techno. With a brilliant driving remix from Kevin Saunderson (!!!!!!) on the flip, this 12" really is something quite special indeed. ESSENTIAL PURCHASE.
