Whats your view about all things scene related???

after doing alot of browsingthere aint much meaningful discussion going on here so i thought i might as well be the 1st person to step out of line and ask what is your opinion of the Dubstep scene? im referring to the quality of the club nights, if you think its a good thing that they're so many these days, if the current influx of steppers are likely to keep the scene as vibrant as it was back in late 2005 early 2006, if producers have the right idea's about their sound, even how long do you think dubstep becomes some different thing all together...?

would like as many responses as possible from anyone that is a member of this board and feels that they can voice their opinion.

scenes don't last very long and end up homogenous and easy to fake

there's actually already too much "scene" talk on here and around dubstep in general in my opinion. Already here you can find posts saying such and such a tune "isn't dubstep" (can't remember which topic I saw one) and people dissing productions by so-and-so.

so I guess we already have all the bad elements of a "scene". I for one wish people would stop behaving and talking as if there is a predefined, cookie-cutter template for "dubstep"

Even though dubstep has been knockin about for a few years I still believe it is a relatively "new" scene and producers are still experimenting trying to find that perfect balance. Alot of people have come and go within the scene. Dont hear much of Horsepower anymore for example and you have new boys comming in like Tes La Rok and Clouds as an example.

But if its not a scene, what do you call it? A following? A movement? Cult? Cub Scouts? Sunday school?

What is starting to happen is dubstep is getting more popular for sure, not neccessarily mainstream, but more popular.

2008 will surely bring more albums, bigger bangers and another one or two tracks that cross the borders into different genres.

But for 2008 my friends, we are going to have to take each hurdle as it comes as this is a snowball, and we are just getting bigger each day..

I'm only 17 so I ain't been to any club nights but I have been into dubstep for about...2 years now and I've seen the "scene" progress you could say.
Everything seems to be picking up now, the influx of new producers, new club nights, the whole thing going global on a scale what can only be described as good? but yet the scene has stayed quite underground and everyone seems to have good vibes, apart from the few little incidents I have read about at certain club nights.

You can really notice how broad the "dubstep" name is by the sort of stuff what is out their, such as comparing Kode9s sonar mix with any of Ntypes shows, both absolutely amazing, yet totally different but still carry that dubstep "tag" I guess you can call it. I don't think dubstep will turn into something completely different, just will slowly start to reach new heights, as much as people are still trying to hit that "wobble" sound there are still loads of top producers showing you don't have to hit that sound to make a "dubstep tune".

Maybe I am just chatting poo but I think the only way the "scene" has developed is the quality of tunes have got better (even though everyone still loves and respects the classics, which is quite a good thing I think) and there is more club nights and more people to fill them! I think I have quite a positive outlook on the "dubstep scene" but when late feb hits (when I turn 18 ) I might change my mind. All in all I think the forum shows a lot of negativity to the scene but it isn't affected nothing, the beats are getting better and the clubs are getting more filled out, we must be doing something right, right?
