this thread is enlightening but also a little bit going round in circles too..what any good discussion should do i suppose.
On a light hearted she-wally note.. we all know that boys have hobbies and our hobby in question is "dubstep". The only hobby girls have IS boys so the only she-wallys at dubstep gigs ARE belonging to boys..and that why you have to watch yourself!
No, really, sorry no offence to the girlsteppers.. perhaps you could enlighten me to why you dont bring all your single friends or why your single friends dont listen to dubstep?

there's nearly 50/50 boys to girls now at the big parties. it's fantastic. i can remember a time when it would be a room full of guys with arms crossed looking at the dj and feeling grumpy.
the gender mix in 2006-2007 is miles and miles better than 2003-2005.
out to all the ladies everytime.

seckle wrote:big up grandizzle for this thread. the only thing i'll add to this is that for every person that's...
-a member of this forum
-goes to fwd/dmz or their own local party every week
-listens to the radio shows and downloads the mixes
-generally knows what's going on in the "scene".
for all of those people^ ; there's going to be at least 20 people that...
-are just there to let loose after a long work week
-don't care what tunes are being dropped as long as the vibe is right and the dj can mix.
-aren't interested that DJ XYZ just played something brand new
-don't care about the anthems
and generally could care less about all the things that are being discussed in this thread.
the stage of this scene is at a crossroads, where every single week there's new faces, and new energy coming to the parties. as much as detailed analysis and re-analysis is totally important on some levels, i think we have to start focusing on the fact that there's 65 radio shows a week now, some of the bigger parties are drawing 300 to 800 consistently in the door, certain record labels are selling over a thousand 12"s in one day.
the seven years of grinding that it took to get the sound to where it is today is bearing tremendous fruit. there are people living their lifelong musical dreams right now. peoples passports are filled with stamps from all over the world. it's incredible.
with the end of the year fast approaching, there's so much to be thankful for, and i sometimes feel that this over analysis and microscopic nitpicking , actually becomes a bit silly. my 2cents, and i'm not trying to belittle the importance of the thread, but i think we have to realize and give thanks for where this music was 5 years ago,and where it stands today.
global things.
respect. words of wisdom

and double-out to the ladies brocking out and accidentally elbowing you in the neck. that's right-- dubstep really is THAT awesome.
At the very least, in NYC the music has brought together a pretty wide-ranging group of people that easily may not have met without it, and from that... good things are happening. music is being made, plans laid, and friendships are being forged. I'm ecstatic to be a part of that. If the downside of the record industry failing is us being fed bucketfuls of shit on the radio, then this is the upside... this is some postpunk, maximumrockandroll shit and it goes DEEP.
Now granted NYC is surprisingly a bit of a Siberia when it comes to all things dubstep, and we've got 3 (and growing) monthlies where you're guaranteed to hear it. I can't speak on London-as-crucible. But i do know that the UK artists like playing here, and the energy that we're all sharing seems to be similar. I think Seckle's right-- we're at a crossroads where things have grown exponentially in the space of 18 months... if we can continue with the strain of positivity that underlies so much of this music-- this will be great.

I could go for an elbow to the neck right about now
Granted that Surya Dub and NarcoHz aren't too far away, give thanks for having local scenes to get involved in.

I like movement, too. But movement suggests purpose. Does Dubstep have a purpose, besides being self serving?
i know i've got a purpose

I like having movements
I think everyone should just sit down and enjoy. Don't worry. Don't get precious. Take it easy. Each to her own. Each to his own.

thanks man
really its basically a remix of a tune by songs: ohia called "not just a ghost's heart"
its a really deep, spacious tune with no beats or bass so i just added my flavor on top of the beauty that was already there
