All about the small venues for me just coz everyone seems to have it so much more. Although DMZ Leeds/Exodus is still the best Dubstep night Ive ever been to and probably always will be. Roll on next Weekend

i dunno... we booked n-type, chef, tes la rok and appleblim... put them on in a venue for 300 people and didn't even charge on the door...

That surprises me. Without going into specifics, many of the top acts can be £400 to £800 for an hour set. even a year ago, prices were about half what they are now.

If anyone is paying £800 they are getting ripped off...unless they are someone like fabric or a festival...it is possible to put big names on in small venues...the djs are not that much but more nights like friday or the fwd/rinse thing at the end will put their prices up if they prove to attract those sort of numbers regularly...

saying that this is only a problem if the scene is not capable of bringing new names foward (like dnb where the big names have not really changed for a number of years) which it certainly has been recently...

these are special situations where little or no money is changing hands. even though these nights can get people to play for next to nothing or free not every night is that lucky. all im saying is that to put on big lineups with several well known acts you have to be able to get a certain number of people through the door to not loose money. since dubstep has risen in popularity and agents have got involved artists are being payed lots more.

that just looks wrong. any and every show i've been to has been a pretty personal thing with the dj. i can't imagine being more than 10 feet away from the dj. i can't imagine a person brocking out when there's 2,999 other people around. i've come to understand dubstep to be a very personal thing to me, and the love seems like it would get lost in situations like sonar.

In answer to the thread:

Big names & mostly Bangers belong in a bigger venue with a propa system! People are getting rowdy in the dance, jumpin about to these bangin tunes and who can blame them - but they need room.

Mostly Deeper sets belong in smaller or at least venues with lower ceilings so people can skank out - only at DMZ (London) have I seen most people in the dance skanking out propa, full body workout business - I wanna see more of this.
