i don't understand him, but it is a standard prayer from the quran. it's more about his delivery and skills than anything else.

*Waits for the wobble tune to be built around that sample*

And that voice is so wonderfully surreal. Love it.

Amazing voice and delivery.

Devotional music of any kind when done well can be breathtaking. You can really see how believers feel they are closer to God when they hear it.

Saw some Gregorian chants in a cathedral once. I'm not a believer, but that was proper deep medi business.

I had pretty much (in fact no, definately) the most surreal experience of me life with something similar to that. Was in Greece with my old philosophy class and long story short, I wound up in a cave on a greek island where apparently the book of revelations was written, the morning after the pope had died. Shit was going off. Basically there was 1 man standing on a small altar reading text from some book (not saying it wasnt the bible, but ive got no idea. It was all in Latin i think.) which was then repeated as a chant by the 5 men who were kneeling around the altar, heads bowed. Then, every 10 minutes or so (I really dunno, time meant absoloutely shit all in there) an old man wearing even older looking robes would come out from behind this blind holding a small chest, would bow his head then sit back down again behind the blind. Me, another girl and my philosophy lecturer (big up man like simon) were in there for a long time, absoloutely silently. It was really weird, there was just nothing you could say. The chanting (combined with some weird echoes from the cave) was incredibly mind-numbing (not in a bad way!) and there wasnt much else you could do but stand in awe. I dont think ive managed to explain the whole situation as well as I could have, but trust, it was nuts :o
