Which song which sums up your attitude to music?

Post by djslate » Fri Dec 14, 2007 7:51 pm

Not too sure if this is in the right section but I figured people will choose some dubstep numbers so that's justification enough.

For me personally it is DJ Shadow - Building Steam from a Grain of Salt.

Admittedly, this a little leftfield as far as topics go but whenever I listen to that track I literally experience a change in mindset, I can't truly express it in words too well; it's more of a ripple than a feeling. Anyone get me? When I went to go and see him in Brixton last year this was his opener only it was with some sick new drums, I nearly cried there and then. Anyhow, which track does that to you and why? Don't watch genres either...

'The Ballad Of The Broken Birdie Records (Ruxpin Remix II)' - Múm - Múm Remixed.

If you haven't got it, get it. Turn it up and let all the latent MDMA wash out of your body.

This tune will get you about as close to your creator as is possible before you die.

Christ there are so many. But this is the one.

Paradox - A Certain Sound (Remix)
Off of the Distorted Reality EP on Renegade Hardware. The original ain't bad either but this version kills it.

Complex, simple. Soulful, futuristic. Dark, funky. Everything all at once. Perfect.

Shit I was reading through the above comments and was thinking of that, totally agree, amazing song. Think NIN were actually much better when they did these stripped down, incredibly dark tunes rather than shock rock bombast.

For me got to be Warszawa by David Bowie (don't know if the spelling's right) - really powerful track from Low.
Hmm....

there are a handful that really shake me, of the top of my head.

Mogwai - Sine Wave

Devin Townsend - Truth < epic, just a huge track.

Devin Townsend - The death of music < once you get past his cheesy early metal style vocals, amazing tune. Lump in back of throat biz.

Godspeed you black emperor - Dunno what the track/passage is called, terrible canyons of static or one of those? three of them at the end of Lift
Your SKinny Fists album anyway. very very beautiful sounds.

Ravi Shankar - Darda < for the sake of purely stunning musicianship really.

Vaccine - Wishful Thinking

That trick gives me tingles up the spine. Never thought i'd like dubstep that mellow/deep but it definitely has it's time and place. It's got me making some now :)

I've got two...

Aphex Twin - Alberto Balsalm
John Dowland - A Fancy (early renaissance music). This piece is simple (on a certain level), logical and beautiful.
