Was not expecting it to happen, I thought she was way too high profile and then the first attempt on her life happened back in October. The city she was killed in was the city that her father was hanged in 1979, security should have been tighter.

Another moderate Muslim voice silenced!

Seriously, Jesus.. i have been following the whole political debacle for a while now.. there's going to be some seriously ticked of people today.. this is probably the worst thing that could happen... the maelstrom commeth.

Generally anyone at that level of power is corrupt. Theres no other way of them getting to that position, but killing her is only going to make things worse. I feel sorry for the millions of people the world over who are affected by these political games.

A massive tragedy but definitely not surprising. I didn't really expect the extremists to just give up after one try.....especially w/ the elections quickly coming up.

Once again, the same people Musharraf is "fighting" ends up giving him everything he wanted.

That's not the point.

Regardless of what she may have done in the past, she was blatantly the best pick of a very, very bad bunch.

yeah definitely, i wasn't suggesting Bhutto's shady past justifies this heinous shit. it was inevitable from the moment she stepped off the plane, though.

I suppose she just saw it as a justifiable risk. She clearly had / has a lot of supporters but as she was outside the country she didnt have as much power as she should have done.

I think its one of the reasons she was killed. She obviously had a lot of support that wasnt going to go away. That support is still there but its still a massive blow to their party. It might give their enemies enough time to manuver and get stronger.

Actually, this seems to end the power struggle to me. Musharraf and the military have all the power now. I don't see any way that Bhutto's party is going to be able to field a successful PM candidate in time, and there's no way that Sharif is going to form a coalition w/ Musharraf (in fact, I believe he's still banned from running).

And that's all assuming that the elections even happen next month, which from today's events make that much more uncertain.

That resistance to Musharraf still exists though. You cant kill ideas with bombs, in fact it only seems to make ideas more extreme.

At this point everything is speculation though. It will be interesting to see what happens in the next few days.

i think that if the elections are held off too long the level of violence in the country will increase as the uncertainty about them grows, however to be completely honest i'm not entirely up to scratch information wise on whats been going on recently, so i'm not in such a great position to give accurate comment

was listening to some radio archives last night and wondered that if Bhutto actually won the elections how long the Islamists would wait to blow her up and take over. Wake up in the morning and she's been killed. I guess it was inevitable, but its just so jarring to see it happen to such a high profile female.
