Found this on Zed's Myspace...
www.myspace.com/zedbias
Thought this'd be a good opportunity to drop my first blog installment, can't believe I've not sorted it out to write one before, but you know how it goes.....
Got quite a bit to get off me chest, so bear with me....
Those of you who know me personally know that I LIVE for this music stuff... A little obsessive maybe, hard to get hold of, especially for the last few years anyway. Even when you're in the same room, I've most probably been 'elsewhere', a little pre-occupied maybe. Well if thats been the case, and you've left my studio thinkin 'what the fuck is Zed on?!?', or you've left a dozen phone messages for me but not heard back... then this little introduction is for you... It isn't an apology, its just an acknowledgement that I know how I've been. I know I've fallen out of touch with a few of my peeps (especially 'down south'). I want you to know that If you aint heard from me in awhile, you're on my hitlist, and you'll be hearing from me real soon!! You know who you are.... and you know how much time is involved in doing what I need to do. I've neglected certain things due to being so focused on getting this shit started right. Has it been worth it? Hell yeah!! 2007 has been the most positive and creative year of my career. I've put my whole brain into the job, spent WAY too much time in front of the PC in the lab, and got some serious results........
'05/'06.... Phuture Lounge, Phuturistix LP, Maddslinky remixes, Rainbow Soul LP (and club for a while), RBMA, Michelle Amador LP, Vaceo LP, Elektrons LP, Mpho Skeef, Amp Fiddler, Oezlem LP.........That was a BUSY couple of years, new surroundings, new sounds, new peeps.... all very exciting and believe me when I say, I emersed myself in it all, every day. All collabs and self-pimpin producer for hire, a big change from the 8 years previous. And a much needed change to be honest. A lot got done in a short space but to many peeps who were used to me releasing my own stuff (too) regularly in the past, it may have seemed like Zed had disappeared for good.
So as '07 approached, I decided to dust off the old ZB moniker and come with some solo stuff... My reasons for getting the ZB stuff rockin again was that I was missing the weighty, nasty assed b-line stuff I was doing years ago, and as the years have gone by I'd been storing ideas in my brain and on my HD for a new blueprint.
I upped sticks, found a new, compact 'laboratory' on the other side of town and set about creating my new sound in a new environment.....Well, I started making beats that few would associate with me at all..... 4x4, 125 bpm house music, well stripped down and ready for the clubs. Early '07 I made the 'Biasphere EP' with every intention of releasing it myself.... 'Time', 'Bareknuckle' and 'Boomerang' were literally 'experiments' with my new sound, my new lab and my new state of mind. Pretty liberating it was too. I'd previously explored all manner of beats, broken them to bits, swung them round, all manner of 'steps' going on, but this time last year, I just wanted to JACK LOLOLOL
Whatever floats ya boat, eh? A change is as good as the rest, so they say....
Well, this all got me thinkin, mainly about 'Experiments', in my new lab, with my new 'Sound' which didn't have a name, mainly because ,undoubtedly it would be changing weekly, and I was having and still am having too much fun to nail it down to one 'style'.... and so, 'Experiments with Biasonics' was born in march '07 as a way to umbrella all of my new music without having to fragment, seperate or needlessly explain constantly what I'm doing.
I'm experimenting on a daily basis. Its no deeper or more profound than that. I try out a ting, if it works out, great, if it don't, great. Next..... It beats getting stuck in a rut every few months, churning out the same isshh, and not even realising half the time.
These days, I got my regular partners in crime. A pool of really SOLID peeps I work with.... They are a mixture of recent and new meetings of minds, and old familiar working relationships....Mad MAD chemistry....Mad MAD MADD TALENT, all of the guys I currently work with are DOPE...... Fyza, Jenna G, Ghost1, Frosty, DRS, Strats, Pete Simpson, Phil Asher, Paul Randolph, Kemo, Amorio, Reuben Holt, Jonny Miller (Jim'll Fixit!! LOL), Justin and Luke Unabomber, Atjazz, Simbad, Mark de Clive-Lowe - You lot made my year last year!
Now then... by end of '06, I'd had enough of running little record labels at the same time as holding down all the production and DJ'ing..... as I'm sure everone reading this will know, making the music is just one part of the story.... I had to find a proper home for my music last year, run by peeps that I respect and trust, and I knew were going to stick with me for the long haul, not 'Do one' at the first sign of hard work, or bail on me if the big boys aren't playing my current tracks. I'd had my eyes (and ears) on Sick Trumpet records for a couple of years, LOVED the Landslide single they put out ('Conundrum') and met Phil Cooper and Ste Hodge a few times, loving the guys' good vibes approach to the business we're in. My kinda Taffs LOL.
I approached them with the 'Biasphere EP' and asked them if they'd want to help me make it into a full LP. Lucky for me they grabbed it with both hands and they continue to push the whole thing out there, through cyberspace and beyond. The 'Experiments with Biasonics Vol1' LP is currently out on Sick Trumpet records as a testament to our collective efforts. They've helped me get my podcast out there and get it established and they've helped me over the year get my buzz back. Fellas, I doff my caps.
So what about '08 then? Well there are many other projects being completed at the moment which are due for release on Sick Trumpet this year. Some long awaited projects and some brand new biznizz! Watch this space for regular updates and also check out Sick Trumpet's myspacepage too for details.
I'm also working on the weightier, darker, dubbier side of things right now, and plan to relaunch my old label 'Sidestepper' this year to accomodate these newer, more sinister experiments!
I wish everybody out there a creative, constructive and prosperous '08.... PEACE!!

my vinyl's played to pieces, need a fresh copy of it
Zed's got digital files for sale on his site, but not that one. If anyone can pass the message on to him...

That tune hasn't left my bag since I got it!!! Goes down at any party.
I get the feeling that you dont play many specific Dubstep nights. Correct?

Not one, too many good tunes from other genres to stick to one thing for too long. Was nice getting 4 hours to play so I could go through as many styles as possible (mixing was actually quite good considering how very, very drunk I was)

Well, Blackdown's compiling Roots of El-b so there might be a few rarities on there that you might not have to shell out £20+ for. Think there were a few Ghost bits on Dubplate net too (don't know if they're reissues or old stock).
Given the price some of these old tunes are going for, it can only be a matter of time before someone gets on the reissue tip, there's definitely the interest.
Hmm....
