Dubstep at present... i was wondering???

I dunno.. i was just listening to a few classic tunes, and it got me pondering about the sound at present. I just wanted to ask what happen to the dubstep that mystified us.. though tune that where all about mystery, that could only be expressed through sound or through the creative fingers of an artist whose tools are no more then a pencil

of late.. the current trend is about being left by someone.... big bass lines, what i sometimes describe as fuckry step.. the stuff that hurts your ears... the wobble and more emo stuff.

what happened???? to the mystifying.. the magic... where did that all go to... and why did it go at all...

As boom said - mala. Shackleton and burial also do this kinda thing, and I think what you're describing is my favourite kind of music - that mystical side that really holds you to a track

you see.. those are the names that come to mind... but burial.. i dunno about the whole mystifying thing... he is more on an emo vibe.. if anything... and mala.. still got those tunes.. but stil he been on the lovely deep medi vibe.. which don't get you thinking about exotic spices.. far away lands.. and creatures that only your imagination can conjure up....

i know tron man knows he likes to play them sort of tunes.. that get you wondering.. that can't be linked to one of the emotions.. or feeling when you listen to.. other than a smile on your face.. and a little swing of your hips.

one of the thing's i miss badly about 2004-2005 is that i used to listen to set's and get lost in the beats. music that would just take my mind somewhere else. i hope we haven't lost that.

we need more dj's that try and take you on journeys with them as well. i'm talking about the ron hardy, derrick may , dj randall notion of a journey.

man the illicit thrill i got when i first listened to coki's 'officer' in a manchetser record shop. had little or no context for what it was, where it came from, who made it, what scene/genre it was a part of, how it related to anything in the wider world etc. etc.

for a brief time there i was free of all context, background and taxonomical classification and it was wonderful and mystifying in a way that music hadn't been to me for years. that 12" was like a disembodied bolt from the blue, a thing of singular dubwise beauty in its own right.

yeah agree with seckle on here. I think the best mix I've heard in ages has to be that Shackleton mix on mary anne hobbs. That's a journey that completely grabs you and doesn't really let go. I think there's a lot of good stuff along this vibe coming out of bristol at the moment through pinch, peverelist and headhunter

dont you know... back in the early days.. alot of dubstep had that mystifying appeal to it, and well the scene was much smaller then... it was one of the reasons why i got into this music .. the journey that seckle talked about.. thats what it was all about.. the mind, the body, the soul... tripping over each other.. and it aint like present dubstep is better the stuff that horse power would make, fuck it lets not call it dubstep that sound

so what happened... i pretty much stopped hearing allot of the stuff come 2006.. that whole mystifying feel was all but lost for me in that year.. so is that the producers at this current time are not familiar with such sounds.. or is it that the inspiration that producers drew from back then was allot lighter...... and the fact that pretty much everything back then was original???? inspiring them to make sick beats with the wickedest drum patterns... ???

tron you know init.. the sounds where deep like that... again it leaves me wondering .. surely if there is a demand for that kind of sound.. the sound that many of us fell in love with .. why did it up and leave like my ex?

thought about this more and more at the years end. i would say that the spread of the sound as wide as it's become has completely revolutionized it.

goth trad is probably one of the shining examples of this.

because a lot of people go for bangers, and there's a more visible appreciation for those bangers in the way they go off, even if some of us enjoy this kind of sound more

seriously though.. you been in a club when some of these tunes go off. everyone raises one hand in the air and nods there head.. listen to some of the stuff futuristics produced.. i much appreciate a crowd full of people smiling.. then going crazy.. aint nothing more satisfying then .. pretending to play some chords of a deep tune.. whilst smiling.. haha.. thats the gangsta boogey right there
