Live sets?

Post by richter b » Sun Jan 13, 2008 2:47 pm

Which artists do 'live' sets?

Ones I know of are Bass Clef, Shackleton and Elemental... any more?

This is in relation to a night I do in Brighton in a small punk venue where we're trying to put on dubstep in an 8pm - 1am 'live gig' format (with dj's too). We had Bass Clef down just before Christmas and it was great but are we gonna run out of acts? Discuss...

P.s. I'd count laptop sets as 'live' for the sake of argument.

Boxcutter is superb.

There's a couple of guys from Bristol who are pretty good too:

Phaeleh - www.myspace.com/phaeleh

B-lam - www.myspace.com/blamstep

edit: ignore me, sorry they're both laptop based. I should read the threads more carefully. :6:

Elemental is fucking sick on the live set (although it is still 'just' a laptop set). He is a master of Ableton, and creates sets so imaginatively out of his repertoire of tunes.

I can definately second Elemental... his live sets are deep and dynamic like no other. Properly mashes it up over 16 channels of audio.

ScanOne also does wicked live sets, sample here:

thanks all, loads to be getting on with there...

we actually approached elemental first for the next night (which is on 22nd Feb at the Freebutt incidently - w/ Deadboy Racer and DJs Ashley Marlowe and Kid Blast confirmed) but he's out the country unfortunately. we'll def be back on his case for the one after next though.

i reckon shackleton and boxcutter are prob too expensive / big for the venue but i'll be chasing up some of the names you lot have come up with for sure.

So if a dubstep artist isn't doing a laptop set, how are they doing it? Live band? Part live instrumentation, part laptop?

Bassclef does it using bits of hardware, some effects pedals, a tombone, a cowbell, several whistles

sounds wicked too :)
