Not to be rude but

A/ There's a search function for the numerous identical posts on this

B/ Why don't you just listen to some tunes and figure out which ones you like and go with your other music rather than just play ones that are deemed popular by others?

This seems to be the dj equivalent of "how do I make a beat" threads.
Hmm....

im unaware of the search function but will look it up.

i know its a bit of a generic question and believe me im listening out and researching it all, jus thought it wouldnt harm to simply ask a little advice on whats big, where to start etc

Maybe this should be made a sticky... not this specific thread but the old 'Recommend me some dubstep' thread?

Fair enough, I just think that you should follow your own tastes and establish your own style rather than just buy the popular tunes because they'll go down well. I'll let it go though as you're starting out

Its almost impossible to answer really. I have found that you need a pretty big collection of tunes because they dont all work together seemlessly like other genres. Time to start collecting methinks.

of course i'll be establishing my own style, once im beyond the preliminaries. :)
the most popular stuff is never a bad place to start.

i sticky 'recommend me some dubstep' would be a good idea for all. even for established fans who maybe jus want to branch out a little further

Another thing is that there's so much fucking gash dubstep getting released now that its probably worthwhile recommending the good stuff

In terms of whats popular/generally acclaimed try: Digital Mystikz (Mala, Coki), Loefah, Skream, Benga, Kode 9, Burial, The Bug, Pinch, 2562, Peverelist, Horsepower, El-B (more garage but...) Appleblim, Shackleton, Cluekid, Cotti, D1, Anti Social Entertainment, Slaughter Mob, Scuba, Kromestar, Rusko, The Others, Martyn

I'm not even into all of the above necessarily but thats a good variety of producers, if you just listen to clips on chemical/juno/boomkat or mixes featuring those producers I'm sure you'll be able to work out what you're into... that might not necessarily be what audiences are into, I suppose its up to you if you want to go with what you personally like or what you think will go down well
