odd one for anyone in the know? about TEMPA that is......

Post by shervington » Wed Jan 16, 2008 1:04 am

was there a bloke called neil involved in the creation of tempa records? way back in the early days? not trying to start some lengthy debate into who did and didn't have anything to do with it or anything like that, it just the accountant at my work and me were chatting and hee is on it musically. and always has been. and when he used to work for some magazine time, he was down with his old house and the early days of uk garage and affro beat. and he was chatting about this guy he knew called neil he thought, couldn't remember his sir name, who was involved in the creation of an old garage lable before i mentioned anything he said horsepower or tempa, which obviously shocked me, so i said i would see if i could find out for him. its a jokes story cos he is getting on a bit now and has obviously stop listening to house, garage and ting and now rocks it banging out the most hick country you have ever heard. "you think your a vinyl junkie" he said, i said yeh a bit but i'm a waste and barely have cash at the best of times, so he took me back to his yard today and he has got the most rediculous amount of vynil i have ever seen, i'm talking Dj Shaddow quantity all in alphebetical order of genre, it takes up two fucking rooms!!!!!!!!!!!!!

anyway just thought i would share my story from my day today,

if anyone can help

diamond

yeah, neil was involved from the start. he started tempa with sarah.

well, the impression i've got is that initially sarah had soulja and neil started tempa, shelflife and vehicle before forming ammunition together to handle them all.

neil can be credited with inventing the word dubstep.

not sure what he's up to now though.

Yup. He's a top man, haven't seen him for years though. I believe he's a carpenter now?

Really? I was always led to believe that it only came about through the XLR8R issue.

Interesting.

ah that's the common misconception

it only made it into xlr8r as a result of being on a tempa press release

yes. XLR8R put horsepower on the cover and used the term dubstep from the Ammo press release.

Tempa was Neil's baby to begin with, as was Shelflife. Tempa's deepness really came from Neil's A&R vision and Horsepower's output.

Saw him again recently, he came to DMZ last year and the FWD>> 7th birthday warehouse party.

Is there ever going to be a third installment of that series?

Bit strange it still being called 'Grime' seeing as the last one was all dubstep. I'm sure that confused a few peeps who were just starting to get into the genre around that time.

large up all of you for clearing that up. its a small world hey?! told tony about all of this today at work and he was haps beyond belief, he is now getting back in contact with neil, so because of the wonders that this forum you can pat your self on the back in the knowledge that you have reunited a bored old timer with an old buddy.

your time
