Glade will be a definite for me (wicked festival and BAMN, right on me doorstep!) but other than that I dunno. I imagine ill be at the big chill (unless i have to resit half the academic year the week after again...) always nuff crew going, some nice food and a bit of sun and youre all set to walk around various stages for a few days with no idea what youre listening to but which is as a general rule of thumb most pleasant
Art trail ftw!

BLOC for me this year (but then i am playing
)
Been to Sonar loads - 7 years on the trot - ain't been for a couple of years now but would like to go back. Not for the festival as such but for the parties that go on outside of Sonar. Barcelona is a mad city - fell in love with it on my first visit. Could easily see myself relocating there one day...

Nice one mate. I'll have to check it out.frebentos wrote:last year I sourced one off gumtree, cheap as fuck! was like 100 euros each, between 6 of us for like 10 days, in a nice area, L'examplie (blatant wrong spelling)...Ed G wrote:On the subject of Sonar -
Never been before and never been to Barcelona either.
Anyone got any handy tips on where to find an apartment and the best areas of the city to get one in etc?
Any tips for a Sonar first-timer?[b]racket wrote:

First year I done only the night events and it was o...k.....Ed G wrote:

Last year I done only teh day events and it was much...much better.
The nightime SONAR party is just like a massive hyperclub with all the fucking rockets that go along with it, best thing there were the go-karts imo(and modeselektor actaully, dudes fucking smashed it)...although if you enjoy the feel of Fabric(which i dont), you'll prob enjoy the nighttime venue.
The day time was much better, again, only my opinion, real relaxed atmosphere, few tents setup with experimental/ambient tunes, (little ms electronic played a blinding set) just sit about in the sun with a few beers and listen to some good music. Theres always the red bull room for those that want a more "traditional" club atmosphere, and the fact that there are loads of excellent fringe parties on in wee bars and clubs around barcelona means you dont really require the night time cattle drive...
Onviously if theres LOTS of people you want to see at night then by all means go, but in my experience I found it no different from a heavily packed club in London with utter fannys rocking nylon trousers, chatting shit and writhing about the ground(that was pretty funny)...
Pick up the magazines they give out at the day events for full listings of the fringe parties...

Exit 06 was amazing! Full Stop.
EXIT07 was totally different. 5 times the amount of Brits, and a fair bit more aggro as a result. Also noticed sound restrictions coming into play for the first time which for me is a no go. Loud or Fuck Off tbh.
Anybody reach last year?
Zinc blasted out 'Night', gave the Serbs their first taste of dubstep.

EXIT06. plenty of drugs, best pills you will take, bar none. It was like something out of the Acid House era.Corpsey wrote:Exit was great last year, didn't encounter too much aggro... not sure why. Didn't encounter much good drugs either... not sure why.
07, fuck all drugs, much much lower quality. They have worked out you can use less good stuff and still people will buy them. Increased security and police throughout the venue. They have about 300-400 undercovers operating alone.

The dance arena is an absolutely awesome stage, your so right about the morning. On the whole the eastern Euro's are quite anti drugs. They have it all night on the music itself, which is brilliant.Corpsey wrote:Yeah I was imagining it as a drug-crazed free for all before I went. It wasn't that but the dance arena was still a jaw dropping place to be as the sun came up.
I dunno if I can be bothered with all the hassle of getting there again...
Both times i've been we've rented nice apartments. I've always like to seperate from the festival and spend the daytime lording it about as opposed to sweating it out in the camping area and defending my passport with an AK.
Yeah I didn't do the campsite and I'm glad- everyone I knew who did ended up looking dead after about two days. Hence why a lot of them are ducking out this year.
It's just a dream setting really isn't it... could do with less serbian skinheads/idiot english people (''oh yar exarrt'') and more decent pills tho really.

The location is probably the best i've ever seen. In all my years of throwing dodgy raves we didn't do somewhere as good as that.
Yes, the serbs are a bit crazy, the English count was up 10 fold mate!
2006 was exactly how you'd have liked it to be.
Thats why last year was slightly painful for me if i'm honest. It was perfect.
The problem is, the line up will start coming out, it's bound to be utterly sick once again...

That is what i'm trying to work out.
Basically
06 = about 1/2k English 3-4k Irish.
07= Very little Irish 10-15k English.
Now when the capacity is only 40k a day, 1/4 is too much for me.
The problem is, most people absolutely loved it, so if they tell their friends, well 08 is going to be even worse, in theory.
It's a real shame to be honest mate, if you read up on the history of the festival its a real shining light after the oppression of Slobodan. It means exactly that EXIT slobodan. The first festival was 100 days long, celebrating the end of our NATO forces bombing, which lasted 100 days.
It was originally in the camping park, just one band, or poem reading per evening. It's since as you can see grown to an internationally reknown superfestival with artists lining up to play!!
It's beginning to outprice the locals. Having spoken to a local school teacher in 06, he said it cost him 1/3 of his monthly wages for a ticket. I find that sort of thing really quite upsetting. IMO, charge us triple, keep the locals in for reasonable rates, they are what make EXIT so special.
The whole country is still fucked though in reality, nothing has really changed, they just brush over it for one weekend whilst all us lot are there. Coin in off the back of rich westerners.
Thats sort of what its become, which is a shame.
Btw: How fit are the birds?
