why is this forum so busy...
... when Dubplate.net was so quiet. can anyone explain?
Keysound Recordings, Rinse FM, http://www.blackdownsoundboy.blogspot.com, sub, edge, bars, groove, swing...
Timing. I think dupstep is starting to filter through to a lot more people. I think the success of this forum is closely linked to the increased accessibility of dubstep. bleep.com/road, your pitchfork column and other things have all opened it up; moved it from being a relatively insular london sound to a sound regarded as a very important sound in the modern music landscape.
Dubstep as a buzzword is being dropped in various online media and dare i mention the fact that it's perhaps become a little bit hipster. Also, i think it has generated interest from slightly jaded grime, d&b, breaks fans, perhaps confused by the rephlex comps, finally winding their way up here.
Look at the attendance of FWD and how that has become increasingly diverse, most interesting the growing numbers of students!
Plus dubplate had a bit of a cliquey feel. Perhaps just all the lurkers responded to dubway's very timely call to arms.

cos there's no grimey yardy types around talking text trash...
...dubsteppers seem to be more enlightened, not suffering of fools gladly and perhaps more mature in years
but yeah also the fact that it isn't just based around a london club thing anymore...
...dubstep for me is more about the dub than the step and dub is universal
the space, the bass, the ganja and Jah's grace

i joined to get in touch with the scene and the sound - there's not much here in MLBN (unless you really like tek house and pop hiphop) so i wanted to get hold of producers and listen to what other people think/do/say.
Oh, i know that's not what it means. But that's what it is.
ha. yes. except i'm into the step. always thought of the 'step' as that huge snap-your-neck crack of the snare/clap...dubmugga wrote: ...dubstep for me is more about the dub than the step and dub is universal

Dubstep seems to be 'fan-driven', without the cliqueyness of dubplate.net. people can ask really obvious questions here without fear of ridicule and get some straight answers. it's a self-help community. let's hope it stays that way (no fucking attitudes please!!).
dubstep becoming hipster?! damn, time to find a new underground style to champion
